Ill Niρo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You think that I don't want to hate you
I know that I never did like you
This is not another passing phrase
But I can see your face
But when shit will finally break me
Persistent in trying to get me
El fuego que quema adentro
Stay away
I never want to see your face
Forget my name
There's nothing you can do or say
Stay away
I never want to see your face
Forget my name
There's nothing you can do or say
You think that you're so much like me
But you will not ever remind me
Of everything that I cannot embrace
But I can see your face
I'm trying not to remember
I'm trying not to point the finger
El fuego que quemo adentro
Gets to my head

The lyrics to Ill Niño's song "Cleansing" are a powerful statement of rejection and anger towards someone who has caused the singer pain or discomfort. The opening lines "from guilt to dust" suggest that whatever connection the singer had with the person they are addressing has now been utterly destroyed, reduced to nothing. The following lines "you think that I don't want to hate you" imply that there was a struggle within the singer to overcome their negative feelings towards this person, but ultimately they were unable to do so. The repetition of "stay away" and "forget my name" throughout the song underscores the singer's desire to distance themselves completely from this person, perhaps indicating that they feel threatened or unsafe in their presence.
The line "el fuego que quema adentro" (the fire that burns inside) adds a layer of intensity to the song, conveying a sense of inner turmoil or passion. The repeating refrain of "I think I kind of hate you, I never really liked you" further underscores the singer's ambivalence about their feelings towards this person, suggesting that even if they had positive feelings in the past, those have been completely eclipsed now.
Overall, "Cleansing" is a cathartic anthem of defiance and self-protection, allowing the singer to assert their boundaries and reject those who have hurt them.

I recorded this on TiVo back in like 2005, this has ALWAYS been my favorite version of this song and I could never stop thinking about the singing compared to the album version over the years. I'm so happy to find this again! My 2nd favorite Ill Nino song!!!

They are WAY UNDERRATED Ill Nino should be mainstream and at the top of the charts. This concert version is way better than the actual track.

this song live has a phat beat, love it :)! they are so under-rated... they're so much better than other more popular bands that can't even sing live!
