Jungfrauenquelle
Illuminate Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Illuminate's song "Jungfrauenquelle" tell a story of an unidentified person who had committed murder and now lies dead, with their body resting in a place where the murder took place. The person's "white body" is untouched, and from their loins "a spring of God's grace" flows out. This is meant to serve as both a gift from God and a warning to all who witness it. The singer describes the sky as being black, even though it seems to be on fire. The person rests under a shroud, and again the warning of the spring of God's grace is mentioned.

As the singer listens intently, they hear the sound of their blood flowing like a murmuring spring, seemingly weeping as it pours out. However, the singer cannot find the wound from which it flows, possibly indicating that the person's death was by some unseen means. Overall, the lyrics reflect themes of guilt, sin, and judgment, as well as a sense of unsettledness and the finality of death.
