Scarcely another band among the German-speaking Alternative /(Dark)Wave-scene has polarized media and audience within the last fifteen years as much as ILLUMINATE. Either praised up to the skies or torn apart as "Schlager" (a German derogatory term for bad pop songs) – be that as it may, for the last decade, Johannes Berthold and his band have left their mark on the Dark scene...
ILLUMINATE manage to combine classical elements, dance rhythms, electronic sound collages, romantic piano parts and heavy guitars without being unfaithful to their typical, unmistakable sound. After seventeen years of band history, 12 studio albums, world-wide life-performances, and having an enormous fan-base, ILLUMINATE are one of the most successful acts of the Alternative / Dark Wave-segment.

Zwei Seelen
Illuminate Lyrics

Du brauchst vor mir den Starken nicht zu spielen;
Ich kenne Deine Angst. Ist es nicht bloß
Ein kleiner Kampf? Die Welt bleibt viel zu groß
Und fügt sich nicht. So geht es vielen!
Doch Du leg' Deinen Kopf in meinen Schoß!
The lyrics of Illuminate's song Zwei Seelen talk about a person who is feeling burdened with worries and troubles. The singer is trying to console and comfort the person by asking them to rest their tired head on their lap. The singer acknowledges the source of the person's worries and tells them that they cannot make them go away completely. However, for the moment, the singer promises to speak to them in a way that would free them from these worries. They ask the person to find solace in the present moment.
The singer then proceeds to stroke the person's hair gently but explains that it is not an act of desire or lust. Instead, the singer wants to escape the world and not worry about its troubles anymore. They offer the person a small comfort in this moment of distress and urge them to find peace with them. The lyrics come to a close with the singer telling the person that two souls are waiting for them in their lap, and they should take rest from the worldly matters. The singer reveals to the person that they have found what they were searching for, a piece of heaven, in that person's company.
Overall, the lyrics of Zwei Seelen reveal a moment of vulnerability and compassion. The singer acknowledges the person's fear and anxiety and promises to give them a moment of respite. The message is one of seeking peace and comfort in the present moment and in the company of another human being.
