Rapture
Ilo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Toe to toe
Dancing very close
Barely breathing
Almost comatose
Wall to wall
People hypnotized
And they're stepping lightly
Hang each night in Rapture

Back to back
Sacroiliac
Spineless movement
And a wild attack

Face to face
Sadly solitude
And it's finger popping
Twenty-four hour shopping in Rapture

Fab Five Freddie told me everybody's high
DJ's spinnin' are savin' my mind
Flash is fast, Flash is cool
Francois sez fas, Flashe' no do
And you don't stop, sure shot
Go out to the parking lot
And you get in your car and you drive real far
And you drive all night and then you see a light
And it comes right down and lands on the ground
And out comes a man from Mars
And you try to run but he's got a gun
And he shoots you dead and he eats your head
And then you're in the man from Mars
You go out at night, eatin' cars
You eat Cadillacs, Lincolns too
Mercury's and Subaru's
And you don't stop, you keep on eatin' cars

Then, when there's no more cars
You go out at night and eat up bars where the people meet
Face to face, dance cheek to cheek
One to one, man to man
Dance toe too toe
Don't move to slow, 'cause the man from Mars
Is through with cars, he's eatin' bars
Yeah, wall to wall, door to door, hall to hall
He's gonna eat 'em all
Rapture, be pure
Take a tour, through the sewer
Don't strain your brain, paint a train
You'll be singin' in the rain
I said don't stop, to punk rock

Well now you see what you wanna be
Just have your party on TV
'Cause the man from Mars won't eat up bars when the TV's on
And now he's gone back up to space
Where he won't have a hassle with the human race
And you hip-hop, and you don't stop
Just blast off, sure shot

'Cause the man from Mars stopped eatin' cars and eatin' bars
And now he only eats guitars, get up!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ilo's song Rapture describe the frenzied energy of a nightclub scene, where people dance and socialize in a state of euphoria. The first verse describes the crowded dance floor and the hypnotic effect the music has on the partygoers. The second verse references physical movement and the primal instincts that can arise in a club environment. The lyrics then take a surreal turn, as the partygoers are warned of an alien invasion and the subsequent violence and chaos that ensues.

As a whole, the song seems to be a cautionary tale about excess, and how the pursuit of pleasure can lead to dangerous consequences. The references to drug use and outlandish behavior (such as eating cars and bars) also contribute to this theme.

The night I laid my eyes on you
Felt everything around me move
Got nervous when you looked my way
But you knew all the words to say
And your love slowly moved right in
All this time, oh my love, where you been?
Mi amore, don't you know?
My love, I want you so
Sugar, you make my soul complete
Rapture tastes so sweet
La, la la la la la la...
You mesmerise in every way
You keep me in a state of daze
Your kisses make my skin feel weak
I'm always melting in your heat
Then I soar like a bird on the wind
Oh I glide as I'm flying through heaven
Mi amore, don't you know?
My love, I want you so
Sugar, you make my soul complete
Rapture tastes so sweet
La, la la la la la la...
Since we connect behind closed doors
Spark this fire even more
No telling where we will be next
Surrender to your rapture aura
Lay your head, let the slumber flow
Can't resist, that's why words will rule
Mi amore, don't you know?
My love, I want you so
Sugar, you make my soul complete
Rapture tastes so sweet
La, la la la la la la...

Probably I spend like 18 years searching for the song (I'm 30). The only thing that I used to reference was the chorus-beat (la la la la la la) that obviously it doesn't work😂

@AK-fo3mj

I feel you! I've been searching for a song I kept listening to since my childhood and didn't know the name of. Finally found it randomly on a UK Chart during Christmas. It was Sugababes-Too lost in you.

@therealrealSANDMAN

Same problem that I have right now with another song 😅

@Hamid__786

@@therealrealSANDMAN same to me ..

@pawansharma499

First time i listened it in 2008 in a indian mix song, but doesn't found the official song, but today in July 2020 i finally found it..

@carljohnson_gtasa

My brother played it in 2007 and I was in 7th that time, I'm from India 🇮🇳 I used watch English song in my pc in the absence of my brother only to watch Kissings honestly (bcoz Bollywood hasn't much kissing songs that time), I found Enrique Iglesias songs like escape, addicted etc it has plenty kissings.

Im much influenced by English songs such as from Metallica, Guns 'n Roses, Bryan Adams- summer of '69, Sting-desert rose, Evanescence, Backstreet Boys, Nirvana, Blues, Linkin Park and many songs I don't remember.. I had this Rapture song in that folder. Now I m 23yrs old.
