The band consisted of:
* Leee John was born John Lesley McGregor in Hackney, London, on 23 June 1957, of St Lucian descent. He was educated in New York, later studying drama at the Anna Scher Theatre School. He was working as a backing singer for The Delfonics, Chairmen of the Board, The Velvelettes and The Elgins when he met ...
* Ashley Ingram, a guitarist/bassist born on 27 November 1960, in Northampton. John and Ingram formed a songwriting partnership, resolving to start their own 'slinky, sexy and erotic' group, working in a short-lived band called Fizzz. Whilst auditioning for another short-lived band, Midnight Express, they met ...
* Errol Kennedy, born on 9 June 1953, a drummer who was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and learned to drum in the Boys' Brigade and Air Training Corps.
Leee John's drama studies paid off when, among other roles, he was in the cast of the Doctor Who story 'Enlightenment' in 1983.
Imagination's success began to wane after 1983. It coincided with a shift away from their signature sounds toward a more mainstream sound. Their fifth released, "Triology" included the moderate hits, "Thank You My Love", Found My Girl" and the minor hit, "Last Days Of Summer." Imagination's sixth release titled "Closer" found them working the producers of another British band Loose Ends. It includes the hits "Instinctual" (#62 UK and #1 U.S. Dance), "The Last Time" and "Love's Taking Over." By the time Imagination's seventh and final album "Fascination Of The Physical" was released Lee John was the only original member featured in the music video for the lead single, "I Like It." After the album failed to gain significant sales or an audience, Imagination disbanded in 1995. Lee John has since went on to have a moderately successful solo career in both the Dance and Jazz music world.

Da, da, da, da, da, da
Da, da, da, da, da, da
Music and lights
Da, da, da, da, da, da
Da, da, da, da, da, da
Forget tomorrow let's start livin' for today
Let me take you through a night of ecstasy
I like to hear the sound of a mystic melody
In the spotlight with the music playing loud
No distraction, together we have found
Let me show you all the glamour and the gold
Secret fantasies in a show biz world
Music and lights
I'll sing and dance for you all night
Sequins and pearls
And lots of pretty girls
You gotta have rhythm
Da, da, da, da, da, da
Da, da, da, da, da, da
Da, da, da, da, da, da
Da, da, da, da, da, da
Whenever you're dancing and you glide back across the floor
Your heart is singin' and they're calling out for more
Let me take you through a night of ecstasy
I like to hear the sound of a mystic melody
Music and lights
I'll sing and dance for you all night
Sequins and pearls
And lots of pretty girls
You gotta have rhythm
Da, da, da, da, da, da
Da, da, da, da, da, da
Music and lights
I'll sing and dance for you all night
Sequins and pearls
And lots of pretty girls
Give me rhythm
Da, da, da, da, da, da
Da, da, da, da, da, da
Forget your sorrow, let it all fade away
Forget tomorrow, let's start livin' for today
Let me show you all the glamour and the gold
Secret fantasies in a show biz world
Music and lights
I'll sing and dance for you all night
Sequins and pearls
And lots of pretty girls

I'll sing and dance for you all night
Sequins and pearls

The song "Music and Lights" by Imagination is an upbeat, disco-inspired anthem about letting go of sorrows and embracing the joy of the present moment through singing, dancing, and immersing oneself in the glamorous world of show business. The lyrics encourage listeners to forget their worries and enjoy the mystical sound of the melody while basking in the spotlight and reveling in the sequins, pearls, and pretty girls of the show. The singer asserts their abilities to entertain and captivate their audience, promising a night of ecstasy and rhythm that will leave everyone calling out for more.
Thematically, "Music and Lights" exudes the spirit of a carefree disco culture that thrived in the late 1970s and 1980s, where individuals sought escape and liberation through dancing, music, and fashion. The song celebrates the value of experiencing joy and living in the moment, even in the midst of challenging circumstances. The repetitive nature of the da-da-da chorus and the catchy melody make the song infectious and danceable, giving listeners a visceral experience of the emotions it espouses.
Overall, "Music and Lights" is an uplifting song that inspires listeners to let loose and immerse themselves in the euphoric pleasures of music and dance, even as they navigate the complexities of life.
