Big
Imagination Movers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pushing on a tooth,
I found out it was loose,
A little looser everyday.
I pushed it all about,
To try to get it out,
And find out what the tooth fairy pays.
I′m getting older,
And so I'm told,
But day to day it seems,
To hardly show.
But when that tooth comes out,
Everyone will know,
Well that it did, and I′ve grown so big,
Well that it did, and I've grown so big.
It's barely hanging on,
And soon it will be gone,
Be patient is what my parents say.
But they don′t understand,
I need it in my hand,
And in my bed, under by pillow by my head.
I′m getting older,
And so I'm told,
But day to day it seems,
To move so slow.
But when that tooth comes out,
Everyone will know,
Well that it did, and I′ve grown so big,
Well that it did, and I've grown so big,
Well that it did, and I′ve grown so...
Big, training will soon be done,
So big, of my house I'll soon be gone,
Then you can finally say you′re not small.
It only makes me, smile...
(Smile, smile) I got where it was before,
It's the case where less means more,

It took a while but now I know that I'm big.
(Pushing on, pushing on the tooth)

Overall Meaning

The Imagination Movers song "Big" tells the story of a child who has a loose tooth and is eagerly anticipating its loss. He pushes on the tooth, trying to get it out so he can receive a visit from the tooth fairy and show the world how much he has grown. The child feels like he's getting older, but it's not always apparent in his day-to-day life. However, losing his tooth will be a visible sign of his growth and maturity.

The song captures the excitement and anticipation of childhood milestones, and the desire to be seen as "big" and capable. The child is frustrated by the adults in his life who tell him to be patient and not rush the process of losing his tooth. He wants to hold it and feel its weight in his hand, as though its physical presence will prove his maturity.
