I'm A Tree
Imani Coppola Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a tree in the city, it ain't lookin' pretty
Blessed with stress, smog clogging feelin' shitty
There's a river on the highway, things ain't goin' my way
Turn around, go away, come again another day

To the bed I go, stumble to and fro
I'm tired from another day of lookin' for my glow
It's hard to get up, you can say I'm fed up
But one things for certain, yo I gotta keep my head up

Keep your head up
Keep my head up
Keep your head up
Keep my head up
Keep your head up girl
Keep your head up

Keep your head up
Keep my head up
Keep your head up
Keep my head up
Keep your head up girl
Keep your head up

The sun ain't hard to see
Just turn off your TV
Everything around you
Is just part of every other thing, I'm a tree

Why you gotta do what you do
So why you gotta tell me how to be gee, make me feel like you do
I'm tried of messing around it's time to let these people know
A tree in the city, it needs somewhere to grow

River on the highway, I've never seen a grayer day
It's sad, its crappy, it needs somewhere to play
As for me, I'll sit under the tree
'cause there ain't no better place to be

Keep your head up
Keep my head up
Keep your head up
Keep my head up
Keep your head up girl
Keep your head up

Keep your head up
Keep my head up
Keep your head up
Keep my head up
Keep your head up girl
Keep your head up

The sun ain't hard to see
Just turn off your TV
Everything around you
Is just part of every other thing, I'm a tree

And yo
Ahat a freak
Are you all staring at me? I'm a tree
Now yo, what a freak
I'm a tree
(No you're not)
I'm a tree
(Stop lying)

Keep your head up
Keep my head up
Keep your head up
Keep my head up
Keep your head up girl
Keep your head up

Keep your head up
Keep my head up
Keep your head up
Keep my head up
Keep your head up girl
Keep my head up

The sun ain't hard to see
Just turn off your TV
Everything around you
Is just part of every other thing, I'm a tree

The sun ain't hard to see
Just turn off your TV
Everything around you

Is just part of every other thing, I'm a tree
I'm a tree

Imani Coppola is one the greatest "should have been huge, but wasn't" artists in history. I can't figure out why.

@doveflyer1636

She stood her ground with the record company-that’s why.

@jeremyfratefrate6450

Because she stood her ground made the music she wanted to make I respect her.

@shippo36able

No offense, but she ain't dead man. As for making it, she still recording, still painting, stii being a living representative of the arts! She made it and then some in my book. If you judge an artist by what they should have been, your expectations fall short of the true artist she is! It's not about making it. It's about living it. Viva Imani!

@jasontaverner391

@@shippo36able HUH??? How can you miss my point so completely. I am saying she had all the criteria to be huge. How is that a slam on her? Geez!

@fuckk17

Puedo morir tranquila. Busco este tema hace 22 años, encontré gracias a la película Superstar ..que emoción!!!

@UnreleasedUnderratedRnBgrooves

She was extremely, not very, but extremely ahead of her time regarding fashion choices & music videos. Just before Missy Elliott & Kelis graced the scene. I just think she got lost in the pop rubble because of the lack of a distinguished sound back then; many artists of ‘96-‘99 were using the typical trippy ska rock sound (Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, Third Eye Blind, No Doubt, Bloodhound, Sublime, Bowling for Soup).

@hanna.cornwall

I used to love it in my teens, still love it🥰❤️🌳📼

@raysierra4194

I saw her perform at the Lilith fair in new York in 1998.i didn't know who she was at the time.but people I was with.they all knew who she was...I was real impressed....I thought she rocked...

@kylefrom2003

Her music is so odd but I love it ❤️
