Formed by Claes Strängberg and his brother Per in 2004, Immanu El was joined by Michael Persson and Emil Karlsson soonafter where they began to work on their first release.
The band name, Immanu El, is a play on words (of sorts) on the Hebrew Bible's prophecy of Immanuel, the prophesied Messiah, and the Semetic word for God, El (deity), and "with us" (Immanu). The band's name takes on even deeper meaning in light of the Judeo-Christian philosophies of Jesus being simultaneously the Jewish Messiah and God in one.
After touring, supporting such bands as Logh and Loney, Dear they got the chance in 2005 to play a set on the 'Rookie Stage' in the Hultsfred Festival; an opportunity for unsigned bands to perform at a major event.
They released their first EP titled Killerwhale, before being signed to And the Sound Records in 2006. The following year, Immanu El recorded and released their first full-length album They'll Come, They Come. Building on the success of their first album they released their second album Moen in 2009, followed by In Passage in 2011.

Immanu El Lyrics

Through the night You hold me wide awake
My mind is fighting like a child
My hope is a castle made of sand
You break my walls
Tear my pride apart
Take me to where you are
Take me into your arms
Dawn breaks out of the dark
Take me to where you are
In the end we've got nowhere to hide
We pretend there is no otherside
Tonight lay your hand on me
Tonight you are all I see
The lyrics of Immanu El's song "Completorium" delve into themes of vulnerability, inner struggles, and the longing for connection. In the first stanza, the singer expresses their vulnerability and willingness to take risks, stating "In the night I've put it all at stake." This line suggests that they have ventured into emotional territory, possibly exposing themselves to potential hurt or uncertainty.
In the next line, the singer acknowledges that despite their inner turmoil, there is someone who supports and keeps them awake during the night, saying "Through the night You hold me wide awake." This could imply the presence of a supportive figure, either a person or a symbol of strength, who doesn't let the singer succumb to their inner battles but instead helps them face those challenges head-on.
Moving on to the second stanza, the lyrics describe the singer's internal struggle. They compare their mind to that of a child, highlighting the inner turmoil and confusion they experience. The line "My mind is fighting like a child" suggests a lack of clarity or a battle between different thoughts or emotions.
Continuing in the same stanza, the lyrics reveal that despite the singer's hope, it is fragile and easily shattered. They describe it as a "castle made of sand." This metaphor emphasizes the precariousness of their hope, suggesting that it may crumble and leave them feeling vulnerable or lost.
The chorus of the song brings the focus onto the external forces that affect the singer. They describe someone breaking their walls and tearing apart their pride, implying a significant encounter or relationship that challenges their sense of self. The line "Take my heart, take me to where you are" portrays a surrender or willingness to let go and be taken on a journey by this person. It suggests a longing for connection and an intense desire to be in their presence.
The chorus concludes with the repeated line "Dawn breaks out of the dark, take me to where you are." This line symbolizes a transition from darkness to light, possibly alluding to the singer's journey toward inner healing or personal growth. It emphasizes the longing to be with the person who brings about this positive change, desiring to be in their arms and see the light they represent.
Overall, "Completorium" explores the themes of vulnerability, inner conflicts, fragile hope, the transformative power of connection, and the desire to be embraced by someone who brings light into our lives.
