Formed by Claes Strängberg and his brother Per in 2004, Immanu El was joined by Michael Persson and Emil Karlsson soonafter where they began to work on their first release.
The band name, Immanu El, is a play on words (of sorts) on the Hebrew Bible's prophecy of Immanuel, the prophesied Messiah, and the Semetic word for God, El (deity), and "with us" (Immanu). The band's name takes on even deeper meaning in light of the Judeo-Christian philosophies of Jesus being simultaneously the Jewish Messiah and God in one.
After touring, supporting such bands as Logh and Loney, Dear they got the chance in 2005 to play a set on the 'Rookie Stage' in the Hultsfred Festival; an opportunity for unsigned bands to perform at a major event.
They released their first EP titled Killerwhale, before being signed to And the Sound Records in 2006. The following year, Immanu El recorded and released their first full-length album They'll Come, They Come. Building on the success of their first album they released their second album Moen in 2009, followed by In Passage in 2011.

I see it rises
Let it shine
Uh
Uh
Let it shine
Uh
Uh
Around me
Move me now
Be still
Receive me
In slow
Reflective love, uh
Lashing winds of May
I'm warm again
As you touch me
Let it shine
Uh
Uh
Let it shine
Uh
Uh
Uh
Light in horizons
I see it rises
Let it shine
Uh
Uh
Let it shine
Uh

The lyrics to Immanu El's song "May" are open to interpretation, but one possible meaning is that the singer is witnessing the dawn of a new day, represented by the light rising on the horizon. The repetition of "let it shine" suggests a desire for this light to grow and illuminate the world around them. This may symbolize a hopeful or optimistic outlook on life, with a focus on the beauty and wonder of the natural world. The reference to "reflective love" suggests an introspective, contemplative mood, as the singer takes time to appreciate the moment and connect with their surroundings.
The line "lashing winds of May" may refer to the seasonal change from spring to summer, where stronger winds are common. This could represent a metaphorical shift in the singer's emotional state, as they feel "warm again" and are able to find comfort and peace in the natural rhythms of the world.
Overall, the lyrics suggest a sense of openness and receptivity to the world, with a willingness to be moved and touched by beauty and love.
