Formed by Claes Strängberg and his brother Per in 2004, Immanu El was joined by Michael Persson and Emil Karlsson soonafter where they began to work on their first release.
The band name, Immanu El, is a play on words (of sorts) on the Hebrew Bible's prophecy of Immanuel, the prophesied Messiah, and the Semetic word for God, El (deity), and "with us" (Immanu). The band's name takes on even deeper meaning in light of the Judeo-Christian philosophies of Jesus being simultaneously the Jewish Messiah and God in one.
After touring, supporting such bands as Logh and Loney, Dear they got the chance in 2005 to play a set on the 'Rookie Stage' in the Hultsfred Festival; an opportunity for unsigned bands to perform at a major event.
They released their first EP titled Killerwhale, before being signed to And the Sound Records in 2006. The following year, Immanu El recorded and released their first full-length album They'll Come, They Come. Building on the success of their first album they released their second album Moen in 2009, followed by In Passage in 2011.
Tunnel
Immanu El Lyrics

And last breaths are drawn
I'm complete
I'm asleep
I'm complete
As the morning comes
Arosen to the sound of horses around
Far
We're flying
As we're breaking the laws
Through skylines
Sound of wingbeats
By wreaths I am taken
Longful arms
Gates of pearlblaze
You are brighter than all
That floats away
That floats away
That floats away
That floats away
That floats away
That floats away now
That floats away
Daylights without end
Daylights without end
The song "Tunnel" by Immanu El talks about the idea of completion and the afterlife. The opening lines "Last words are spoke and last breaths are drawn, I'm complete, I'm asleep" suggest a peaceful and calm end. The singer feels complete and content as if all their worries have been put to rest. The next lines, "As the morning comes I rise, Arosen to the sound of horses around," show that the singer is in a state of transition as they awaken to a new beginning. The horses around could represent something powerful and majestic to help carry the singer to their next destination.
The following lines, "Far, we're flying, As we're breaking the laws Though skylines Sound by wingbeats, By wreaths I am taken," suggest an unlawful yet exhilarating journey towards a new destination. The singer is being taken away by the sound of the wingbeats, and the wreaths suggest something ceremonial or symbolic. The next lines are "Longful arms, Gates of pearlblaze, You are brighter than all," and these could be interpreted in various ways. The longful arms could be welcoming the singer into the next realm, and the gates of pearlblaze could represent a portal into the afterlife. The last line, "Daylights without end," represents the idea of eternity and infinite light beyond the tunnel.
