Canadian Sunset
Impacts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Once I was alone
So lonely and then
You came, out of nowhere
Like the sun up from the hills

Cold, cold was the wind
Warm, warm were your lips
Out there, on that ski trail
Where your kiss filled me with thrills

A weekend in Canada, a change of scene
Was the most I bargained for
And then I discovered you and in your eyes
I found the love that I couldn't ignore

Down, down came the sun
Fast, fast, fast, beat my heart

I knew when the sun set
From that day, we'd never ever part

Overall Meaning

The song "Canadian Sunset" by The Ventures talks about a lonely person who finds love unexpectedly. The lyrics "once I was alone, so lonely and then you came out of nowhere" emphasize the loneliness that the singer feels prior to meeting the person they are addressing in the song. The analogy "like the sun up from the hills" is used to describe the effect that the person's presence had on the singer's life. In addition, the lyrics "cold, cold was the wind, warm, warm were your lips" highlight the contrast between the singer's lonely and cold past, and their warm and loving present.

The mention of a "weekend in Canada" signifies a change of scene from the singer's previous routine. The singer did not expect to find love but they were pleasantly surprised when they met the person they are addressing. The lyrics "I found the love that I couldn't ignore" express the depth of the singer's feelings towards the person they have met. The singer realizes that this love is strong enough to last forever, symbolized by the line "from that day we'd never ever part". The title of the song is significant as it highlights the natural beauty of Canada, and the warmth and comfort that love provides.

@341JAPPY

Yes, This was a great song back in the day. My cousin Kenny Seymour was the lead singer of the Impacts.

c'est fantastique merci beaucoup

@Ezdduf4kuZ

I knew of this song to be an instrumental by Billy Vaughn back in the early sixties as the Impacts were never played or heard of here in Vancouver Canada....I'm surprized because of the title alone. You'd figure the Impacts singing of Canada that it would certainly of been played here along with Billy Vaughn to even hit the Top 5...but it didn't. Thx4 postin'

@impacbob

R.I.P. It is with great sorrow that I post the pasting of Ken W Seymour. My oldest and beat friend ever, and lead of the Impacts.
