Orphans
Impending Doom Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Life is granted by an unforeseen force, we are but molecules in motion and nothing more?
Survival of the fittest is a dark tale, sending my generation to the depths of hell.

Inventors of evil and the secrets of men worthy of misery, worthy of death.
The pages of the old teach that the treasures of heaven are filth of the earth.
I will not turn my eyes, I will not ignore their cries.
We have turned sanctity of life into a septic tank of living. Oh wretched animals!
This is terror, this is darkness, this is the human heart.

Oh... Set me apart, because when rejection leads to oppression, I proclaim in the loudest.
I curse "modern day consumption" and the chambers that execute them.
Orphans (orphans) come home.

Life is granted by an unforeseen force, we are but molecules in motion and nothing more?
Survival of the fittest is a dark tale, sending my generation to the depths of hell.

Through the tears I see the beauty of you, the night is over, the morning's dawning.
The pages of the old teach that the treasures of Heaven are filth of the earth.
I will not turn my eyes, I will not ignore their cries.

Has anything changed? Has anything really changed?
The time has come. Has anything changed?

Orphans come home the kingdom is yours. Orphans come home the kingdom is yours.
Orphans come home!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Impending Doom's song "Orphans" speaks about the harsh reality of the world we live in, where the strong prey on the weak, and the sanctity of life has been turned into a septic tank of living. The song calls attention to the plight of orphans who have been forsaken by society and the government. The first two lines "Life is granted by an unforeseen force, we are but molecules in motion and nothing more?" speaks about the scientific view of life and how it has been devalued in society. The next line "Survival of the fittest is a dark tale, sending my generation to the depths of hell." denotes the belief that the world is a battlefield and the weaker ones will be devoured by the stronger ones. The line "Inventors of evil and the secrets of men worthy of misery, worthy of death" highlights the evil that man can do to other humans, and the fact that the secrets of men that cause misery to others ought to be exposed and punished. The next line talks about how spirituality and religious teachings have been ignored as the treasures of heaven have been turned into filth of the earth.

The chorus of the song, "Orphans come home" is a deeply emotional and compassionate line that seems to call for the neglected and unloved to come back to where they belong. The line "Has anything changed? Has anything really changed?" is thought-provoking and implies a rhetorical question on whether humanity is progressing or not. The song ends with the same chorus as they invite the orphans to come home.
