Call My Name
In Flames Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You don't remember so I need to figure it out
But the memories fade
The truth is that I'm not so sure if we make it at all
I can't even trust myself

I used to have it all
Until I lost control
I used to have it all
Until I lost control

Why don't you call my name?
Let it bounce between the walls, through the halls of time
A sign for me to go by
So find me the wormhole so that I can be by your side

Sometimes I'm angry, and some days I'm totally numb
I just wanna give it all up

Why don't you call my name?
Let it bounce between the walls, through the halls of time
A sign for me to go by
So find me the wormhole so that I can be by your side

I used to have it all
Until I lost control
I used to have it all
Until I lost control

Why don't you call my name?
Let it bounce between the walls, through the halls of time
A sign for me to go by
So find me the wormhole so that I can be by your side
So find me the wormhole so that I can be by your side
So find me the wormhole so that I can be by your side

Until I lost control
Until I lost control

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Call My Name" by In Flames delve into the themes of memory, loss of control, and the search for connection. The song opens with the singer addressing someone from his past, stating that he needs to "figure out" memories that are starting to fade. He expresses doubt in their ability to make it through whatever it is they're going through, and even questions his own trustworthiness. The chorus repeats the plea for the person to call his name, acting as a sign for him to follow towards a connection. The verses and chorus allude to the idea of wormholes, a theoretical concept in physics that proposes a shortcut through space-time, as a way to bridge the distance between the two individuals.

The song's lyrics reflect on the singer's emotions - anger and numbness - and his desire to give up. While he used to feel in control of his life, something has caused him to lose that sense of power. The repetition of "until I lost control" emphasizes this loss and suggests that it is linked to the unnamed relationship. The chorus's repetition of the request to call his name also highlights the singer's longing for connection and the need for someone to help him when he feels lost.

Mindset & Self-Mastery

My order of preference (could change over time :) )

Above
Mask
All the Pain
Voices – Stay with me (if only there was a great solo before the screaming...)
Follow me
Call my name – Burn
We will remember
Not alone
Life – Deep inside (both have potential and something catchy that is not well exploited in my opinion. Maybe I will learn to love them more over time)
And This is our House....a strange choice for a single. I don’t hate it as much as others do, but I find it curious that on every of the last 3-4 albums they have a song with a different and more commercial sound that most of die hard IF fans hate and they always pick it as the second single (Through oblivion, The truth). Its even more curious that on their more recent tour, they are actually playing This is our house, The truth and monsters in the ballroom...
Im not hating on these songs, but they are actually playing some of the weakest songs (The truth is not the weakest on Battles in my opinion, and Ive learned to like it over time, but it is for many...) of each of their last 3 albums, while even if many hate Siren charms and Battles, they have some solid songs (drained, in plain view, when the world explodes, become the sky (amazing song), wallflower, save me, and many others...) and they have actually picked those 3 songs and stopped playing trigger, only for the weak and Take this life.
I understand they don’t want to always play the same songs, but it is still a very curious decision to pick those 3. The amount of great songs they could have picked instead of those 3 songs is crazy...replacing 3 of their most popular songs ever that everyone wants to hear must have been a tough decision. But if they had picked December flower, Come Clarity and Crawl through knives (or I the Mask, among so many others) it would have made it easier to digest for a few fans...:)
They are also playing Colony and the Mirror Truth, which I think is pretty nice. And fortunately, they still play Cloud Connected and My Sweet Shadow...probably the 2 songs Ive listened the most over the last 14 years

1:00 Those agressive clean vocal lines are something, man. Definitely would like to hear more of that

Clint Beasthood

They really do sound great. But, it's not singing. It's a type of screaming that uses very little vocal distortion, and a lot of oomph.

Garett Chamberlin

Its actually vocal layering.
Singing with a scream layered underneath

I don't Fing care about the technique. I guess the OP means he likes it, and so do it.
It reminds me a bit of Rise Against
