Dead End
In Flames Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Save all your prayers
I think we're lost today
There's no morning after
No one's around to blame

I'm not afraid to bleed
But I won't do it for you
We'll start among hypocrites
The melody of our time

So say goodbye to the world
We are the dead that walk the earth

Scream your lungs out
Await for laughter
You don't have to wait forever
Here's the next disaster

What decides when you've lost the war?
When the first man falls
Or when they erase it all?

We're too numb to feel
The downfall starts right here
Hold your breath and swim
Swallowed by life's tear

In times of make believe
No one really seems to care
Maybe I should care less
'Cause I will die too

So say goodbye to the world
We are the dead that walk the earth

Scream your lungs out
Wait for laughter
You don't have to wait forever
Here's the next disaster

What will it take for us to realize
The more we provoke
Winter will come twice?

Save all your prayers
I think we're lost today
There's no morning after
No one's around to blame

Scream your lungs out
Wait for laughter
You don't have to wait forever
Here's the next disaster

Scream your lungs out
Wait for laughter

You don't have to wait forever
Here's the next disaster

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to In Flames's song Dead End speak of a world that seems to be coming to an end, where there are no more solutions, no more prayers that can save us. The first stanza sets up this idea of hopelessness, where the situation has become so dire that there is no one left to blame. The second stanza talks about the singer's willingness to fight, but only amongst those who have shown themselves to be hypocrites. The chorus is a declaration that the world is effectively over, and that we are just walking dead waiting for the next disaster.

The third and fourth stanzas talk about the futility of fighting a losing battle, where it's difficult to tell when the war has been lost. The singer realizes that we are all too numb to really care about what's happening, and so perhaps it's better to care less. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, confirming the idea that the end is coming, and we are just waiting anxiously for it to arrive.
