During the band's early years, In Flames had a varying group of musicians recording with them, including many session musicians. By the release of Colony (1999), the group had established a stable lineup. Their sixth studio album Reroute to Remain (2002) showed the band moving toward a newer style of music that moved further away from melodic death metal and closer to alternative metal. This decision was criticized by fans of the group's heavier metal sound; however, it increased the band's mainstream audience and bolstered their album sales. As of 2008, In Flames has sold over two million records worldwide.
Since the band's inception, In Flames have released thirteen studio albums, three EPs, and two live DVDs, their latest release being their thirteenth studio album I, the Mask in 2019. In Flames has been nominated for three Grammis Awards. They won two of these nominations; one for Soundtrack to Your Escape (2004) in the "Hard Rock/Metal of the Year" category, and one nomination for their following album Come Clarity (2006) in the same category.
Resin
In Flames Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Through renewal it brought
And a month seems sometimes shorter
Than a half nights longing
Hidden and hard are the reasons for war
Polar twist, invert and flea
But patience will unlock the door
And the maps of reasons re-written for me
When the wait is over and the punishment is due
Each day I crawl to the hall of the giants
And I beg for mercy -
And I beg for mercy in vein
One night is a mare - two is worse
How can I manage three?
In Flames's song Resin talks about the struggles of patience and waiting, and the pain that comes with it. The lyrics say, "A sad song it was, through renewal it brought, and a month seems sometimes shorter than a half night's longing." This line means that although waiting can be painful and sad, it can also bring new and positive changes. The next lines talk about the reasons behind war, and how they can be complicated and hard to understand. The line "Polar twist, invert and flee" seems to talk about the confusion and instability that comes with war.
The chorus speaks about the singer's feeling of being trapped and unable to move on. He says, "I can't dissolve this feeling of mine, but patience will unlock the door." He is acknowledging that he cannot change how he feels, but waiting will eventually lead to a resolution. He also talks about the "maps of reasons" being rewritten for him, which could mean that through patience and waiting, he will come to understand the reasons behind his struggles.
The last few lines of the song are about the unbearable pain of waiting for too long. The singer says, "Each day I crawl to the hall of the giants, and I beg for mercy in vain. One night is a mare - two is worse, how can I manage three?" This shows that the pain of waiting becomes worse with time, and it can eventually become unbearable.
