Serotonin
In Her Own Words Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I remember how you used to say my name, but your voice today it doesn't sound the same. I guess I'm getting used to letting go these days, but I'm trying not to falter. I'm trying not break.

But Sarah's got a hold of my wrist and she won't let go. Who am I kidding? It feels so good, this burst of chemicals. It's what I've been missing.

I'm watching from the window of my room, pretending to be okay without you. But it's like I'm never enough. Cause you're always giving up. Im more than you can carry.

Warning signs, am I ever gonna listen? Peace of mind, too much for me to handle. I'll get by just fine, I'll get by just fine with artificial vices.
I tried to follow all the steps with you, You tried to fall in love with someone new. I'll get by get by, I'll get by just fine without you.

But Sarah's got a hold of my wrist and she won't let go. Who am I kidding? It feels so good, this burst of chemicals. It's what I've been missing.

I'm watching from the window of my room, pretending to be okay without you. But it's like I'm never enough. Cause you're always giving up. I'm more than you can carry.

We pushed all our boundaries and look what we found. The summer is on its way out.

I'm dissecting your white lies, they light up the dark side of you. I wanna tell you

You're always giving up, giving up. It's like I'm not enough, not enough for you.

I'm watching from the window of my room, pretending to be okay without you. But it's like I'm never enough. Cause you're always giving up. I'm more than you can carry.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in In Her Own Words' song Serotonin tell a story of a protagonist who is struggling to move on from a past relationship. The opening lines, "I remember how you used to say my name, but your voice today it doesn't sound the same" indicate that things have changed and the singer is finding it hard to adjust to the new reality. The chorus delves into the theme of the addictive nature of love and how the singer is "trying not to break" and instead finds solace in the "burst of chemicals" that Sarah's hold on his wrist provides.

The singer is aware of the warning signs and acknowledges that peace of mind might be too much to handle. He or she also understands that they don't need their old partner anymore and that they'll "get by just fine with artificial vices." Even though the singer is trying to move on, their mind still lingers on their past partner and they feel like they're never enough for them. The line "I'm more than you can carry" emphasizes the fact that the singer was doing everything in their power to make the relationship work but still felt inadequate.

The song ends with the singer reflecting on how their boundaries were pushed in the relationship and how summer is coming to an end, symbolizing the end of an era. The last few lines of the song demonstrate how the singer is trying to move on and dissecting the lies of the past, so they cannot be trapped in the same cycle again.

I sincerely hope these guys get as big as Neck Deep, All Time Low, and dare I say it Blink!! Solid pop punk! Been following these dudes since the Brand New Me EP and house shows! 🤘🏻❤️

Do Pameme

i hope they don't. not because i don't like the musik, but because i love it. the best shows are the small shows. 40-100 people instead of a few thousand people. i want to see them in a small club without borders and security in front of the stage, so people can stage dive and have a great time. this is pure intensity. i prefer that over screaming girls in the first row like they are on a pop-concert like justin biber or whatever is popular at the moment. dont forget the word "punk" in pop-punk.

Do not fail that’s a little selfish. Also you get more of the music you love if the band can afford to in fact, be a band.

brett linthicum the hell lol do you have to know how big you have to be to sell 150 dollar tickets? I just literally bought tickets to see Korn front row (or GA) 85, Fleetwood Mac 5th row 100, System of a Down GA 75, they would have to be HUGE to sell 150. Like bigger than Fall Out Boy big. So hold your horses. You have enough time to make actual income before that happens.

Howard Jones

They won't because all of their shit is too depressing in comparison. They need to go back to their uplifting / high energy stuff from their first album. That's what put them on the map and that's what people need. Who wants to keep hearing about some guy who's almost 30 who's still emo and getting his heart broken for the 5,000th time by the same chick?

High school's over. Let's move on and start focusing on the positive things in life. We all have our own problems and don't need to dwell in other people's pointless first world problems.

C0NSPIRXCY

@Howard Jones I think they won’t get as big because pop punk is borderline dead in main stream music at the moment. These guys are amazing but they’re 20 years too late IMO.

Robbie Wright

Damn the new vocalist is a great add! The two voices work so well together

Signed Red
