Look Alive
Incubus Lyrics

The hardest thing is rendering a
Moment moving too fast to endure
But you abide and smile wide cause
I want to remember this for sure
You can give me guns and politics and
I'll just make a mess of it, you know
Give me all the sustinance and
The wiser wider part of me will show
Yeah yeah yeah
A picture says with sight
What we can't say with words
But you've been walking eyes to feet
In dark sunglasses
A picture will survive
So smile and look alive
The camera lens is opening
The wider angle's yours

Yeah every empty one of us have methods
To quell the madness of this pace
But yours have bled and are running south
Like jealous Dior mascara down your face
You could take that wait and all that fuss so
Now just get the best of us, you know
Give me love not suicide and
The wise wider part of me will show
Yeah yeah

A picture says with sight
What we can't say with words
But you've been walking eyes to feet
In dark sunglasses
A picture will survive
So smile and look alive
The camera lens is opening
The wider angle's yours!

Look alive... smile
Smile and look alive
Smile, smile and look alive
Yeah woah oh

A picture says with sight
What we can't say with words
But you've been walking eyes to feet
In dark sunglasses
A picture will survive
So smile and look alive

A picture says with sight
What we can't say with words
But you've been walking eyes to feet
In dark sunglasses
A picture will survive
So smile and look alive
The camera lens is opening
The wider angle's yours

Look alive
Smile, smile and look alive
Yeah, smile and look alive
Yeah woah!

me too. this is making me so emotional

This dvd was bittersweet for me at its initial release, as I expecting something of passion and alchemy like Alive at Red Rocks. This is not that: the audio for any given live performance on Look Alive will be from one concert, played over an edited amalgamation of multiple concerts, causing a constant uncanny valley effect, whose most egregious examples we see in lesser bands' tour-hype promo videos.

The strength of this film is more in the spirit of a 'Day In The Life' style documentary, affording us a glimpse of the truly extraordinary (and ultimately soul-devouring) day-in day-out touring lifestyle that Incubus enjoyed for over 20 years with zero respite.

Light Grenades is the last quality album from Incubus (until a future magnum opus yet to come?), and while the music reached new heights of curiousity, innocence, wisdom and exuberance, we can see in this film the real weariness that had settled into their bones, most especially Brandon's. It is no coincidence that Brandon, after this point in their career, had his big health scare, which inspired (I believe) his solo album the Wild Trapeze, just as it is no coincidence that this touring cycle saw Mike's confrontation with wrist problems and subsequent surgery.

What all aspiring musicians should take away from their career is the need for a philosophy and practice of deep rest, regularly enjoyed, so that we can stand on the shoulders of giants like Incubus, and reach even further than they. With proper periods of rest in between tours, I do not believe Brandon's health scare, nor Mike's surgery, nor their dramatically extended hiatus after INNW, nor the terrible songwriting of that album and of 8, would have ever become necessary.

Loved this band from the first song I heard. Probably around 1998. Amazing, how they've adapted through age. Some call it "selling out". I call it a natural progression and maturity. Just saw them in Atlanta. Incredible!

bautista scorticati

They went from nu metal extra funky to psychodelic alternative rock. Thats not selling out, thats called range

Robby Cummings

i wanted to see them a few years ago in atlanta with deftones. i've never seen them live

DeShauna

Totally agree with u there Tim Hill! I love all their stuff from Enjoy Incubus to 8! Just a beautiful spiritual band, seen them live 10 years ago on the light grenades tour in Birmingham uk was amazing, wish I could see them again! Just a one of kind band 😍
