Pardon Me (Recorded Live from the
Incubus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pardon me while I burst
Pardon me while I burst

A decade ago, I never thought I would be at twenty-three
On the verge of spontaneous combustion, woe is me
But I guess that it comes with the territory
An ominous landscape of never ending calamity
I need you to hear, I need you to see
That I have had all I can take
And exploding seems like a definite possibility
To me

So pardon me while I burst into flames
I've had enough of the world and it's people's mindless games
So pardon me while I burn and rise above the flame
Pardon me, pardon me, I'll never be the same

Not two days ago, I was having a look in a book
And I saw a picture of a guy fried up above his knees
I said, "I can relate," 'cause lately I've been thinking
Of combustication as a welcome vacation from

The burdens of the planet Earth
Like gravity, hypocrisy and the perils of being in 3-D
But thinking so much differently

Pardon me while I burst into flames
I've had enough of the world and it's people's mindless games
So pardon me while I burn and rise above the flame
Pardon me, pardon me, I'll never be the same
Never be the same

Pardon me while I burst into flames
Pardon me, pardon me, pardon me

So pardon me while I burst into flames
I've had enough of the world and it's people's mindless games
So pardon me while I burn and rise above the flame

Pardon me, pardon me, I'll never be the same
(Pardon me) never be the same, yeah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Incubus's song Pardon Me are full of raw and intense emotions like frustration and desperation. The song is a reflection of the lead singer's frustration with the world and its people's shallow and hypocritical nature. The opening lines of the chorus, "Pardon me while I burst," is an expression of that frustration and feeling of being overwhelmed by everything around him. The repetition of these lines throughout the song underscores the singer's all-consuming emotions.

The lyrics also reveal the singer's desire for someone to hear him out and see him for who he truly is. The lines "I need you to hear, I need you to see, that I've had all I can take" reflect his need for emotional validation and support. He feels like he's reached his breaking point and could combust at any moment. The imagery of flames and burning is used as a metaphor for this emotional intensity.

The lyric, "Thinking so much differently" suggests that the singer feels like an outsider, someone who can't fit in with the rest of the world. He sees the hypocrisy and the shallow nature of people and feels like he thinks differently from the rest. The song ends on a somber note with the line, "I'll never be the same," which underscores the irreparable damage that his frustration and disillusionment have caused him.

Idc what anyone says. Red pants guy killed it. He cheers his friends at the start, he's having a great time and feeling a great song. A concert full of people like that is more hype than a boring silent crowd.

@bunt1691
