Faith in Motion
Index Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A silhouette of stolen dreams
Heaven is not what it seems
I see myself lying, paralyzed
Black rectangles cover my eyes
Rigid outline, white, around me
Saturnia Regna sings distantly
Avernus is lovely this time of year
the crosses are in full bloom, my dear
Cerulean ultraviolets of pain
the water shimmers deep with their rain
the passion whispers the softest breath
of distant hopes for tranquil death
In ether, in sky, the petals caress
an ocean of violets in effloresce
Waste devotion, faith in motion
Don't ever forget who I am
Don't ever forget what my name is
Sealight snowing blue perfection
I'm a dead reflection, out of sight, show me the light

Faith in motion
Did you ever doubt this day would come?

Overall Meaning

The opening of Index's song "Faith in Motion" paints a dark and eerie picture, with "a silhouette of stolen dreams" and the revelation that "Heaven is not what it seems." The singer then describes a terrifying and incapacitating experience of being "lying, paralyzed" and having "black rectangles cover [their] eyes." The only sound that can be heard is "Saturnia Regna" singing "distantly." The next lines further reveal the singer's haunting surroundings, as they note that "Avernus is lovely this time of year / the crosses are in full bloom." The vivid and ominous descriptions continue with "Cerulean ultraviolets of pain" and "an ocean of violets in effloresce." Despite the horror of these images, there is a sense of yearning for escape, as the singer mentions "distant hopes for tranquil death."
