Take Off Ur Pants
Indigo De Souza Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When am I gonna get out of bed
Like everybody else does, everybody else does
When am I gonna get a better head
Like everybody else does, everybody else does

When am I gonna go back to school
Like everybody else does, everybody else does
When am I gonna start being cool
Like everybody else is, everybody else is

Now that everyone's gone I can tell you the truth
I don't love you, I like you
Now that everyone's gone, I can tell you it hurts
Honey I am just like you

When am I gonna find a better man
Like everybody else does, everybody else does
When am I gonna follow through with my plans
Like everybody else does, everybody else does
When am I gonna find a better man
Like everybody else does, everybody else does
When are you gonna TAKE OFF UR PANTS
Like everybody else does, everybody else does

Now that everyone's gone I can tell you the truth
I don't love you, I like you
Now that everyone's gone, I can tell you it hurts
Honey I am just like you

Everybody else does, everybody else does
Everybody else does, everybody else does
Everybody else does, everybody else does
Everybody else does, everybody else does
Like everybody else does, everybody else does

Everybody else does, everybody else does
Like everybody else does, everybody else does

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Indigo De Souza's song "Take Off Ur Pants" explore the feelings and insecurities that many people face when trying to fit in and be like everybody else. The opening lines of the song reflect the struggle of getting out of bed every day, and trying to cope with the fact that everyone else seems to be doing it so effortlessly. The lyric "When am I gonna get a better head" speaks to the idea that everyone else seems to have things figured out, while we are left feeling lost and overwhelmed.

The song explores the pressure to fit in, as the chorus repeats the phrase "Like everybody else does" several times. The verses express the desire to follow through with plans, go back to school, and find a better man or woman, all while feeling like everyone else is doing it better. However, the bridge of the song takes a surprising turn, as the singer reveals that they do not love their partner, but rather only like them. This moment of vulnerability is juxtaposed with the repeated chorus, emphasizing the pressure people feel to conform to societal expectations.

The final chorus of the song concludes with the line "When are you gonna take off ur pants", which can be interpreted both literally and figuratively. Literally, it may refer to the act of removing clothing, but figuratively, it could speak to the idea of dropping one's guard and revealing their true selves. This line reinforces the theme of vulnerability and honesty, encouraging listeners to be themselves and not worry about fitting in with everyone else.

They play this song maybe twice a day on the radio around Ithaca NY. I am surprised it doesn't have more of a following.
