Last Tears
Indigo Girls Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

These are the last tears I'm gonna cry for you.
My cryin's through, I'm moving on.
I don't regret and won't forget
A single thing that we went through,
But these are the last tears I'm gonna cry for you.

You take things so much easier than I do
And you could live your life without me if you had to
And you believe that in the end it all works out right
And I might if not for you
And if you ask one which one lives just alone for love
I do.

These are the last tears I'm gonna cry for you
My cryin's through, I'm moving on.
I don't regret and won't forget
A single thing that we went through
But these are the last tears I'm gonna cry for you.

There was a time when all signs pointed to the warm south
The planets all lined up and built a new house
And everything we talked about felt like a prophecy
And when you looked at me they all came true
And if you asked which one wants to go the distance
I do.

But these are the last tears I'm gonna cry for you.
My cryin's through, I'm moving on.
I don't regret and won't forget
A single thing that we went through
But these are the last tears I'm gonna cry for you.

I'm gonna rack my mind one last time until I cannot think
I'm gonna dip into your memory and take a good stiff drink
And when I'm drunk on the last drop of sadness about how we went wrong
I'm gonna play this song
Make some coffee black and strong
Give thanks for healing time
Finally make up my mind

These are the last tears I'm gonna cry for you.
Baby my cryin's through, I'm moving on.
I don't regret and won't forget
A single thing that we went through,
But these are the last tears I'm gonna cry for you
These are the last tears?I?m gonna cry for you.

Bawling my eyes out. Beautiful, and perfect timing in my life! Honest to Pete, Emily and Amy must have been itching to get out of that garb by the time they were done shooting this... lol. Awesome song!

These girls are simply wonderful, just wonderful. I was late on the Indigo Girls bandwagon but their new CD made me a fan all over again.

Can you imagine them making this video and just trying to keep a straight (no pun) face during the shoot without busting out laughing at each other?! What a hoot!

Until I saw this video, I've never made it through this song without tears welling up...today in the car when I listened to it, all I could picture was Emily's bouffant/headband combo and Amy in a skirt and it made me chuckle... :)

Thank you, I DID! They did a 90minute set, then were called back for a 15 minute encore. I have often seen/heard singers who ask the audience to sing, and they (the singers) shut up for a CHORUS or 2 (usually NOT the 1st time around... make SURE we know the words.) Several times, Indigo Girls let us carry the singing for the VERSES - and we didn't let them down... And - although they didn't shut up for their 1st encore song ("Ghost") - MOST of us sang along with them for the WHOLE song.

I cried and I cried and I cried.....I have never heard a stronger call to arms.....Our best defense against any more tears is our activism. Peace.

You said it perfectly! I absolutely love the end and this image of 'a stiff drink' of memories...and the need for coffee afterwards. Love the makeup and outfits--so anti IG that it works brilliantly. Emily dripping with pearls...I think Amy still looks like herself, just decorated differently. ;) Emily's hairstyle and makeup remind me of Tina from the L Word...

This song. It’s in my heart.
