They gave their first concert at "Le Rose bonbon", a café in Paris on 29 September 1981. This brief performance on stage earned them their first contract with a record company.
They recorded their first single in November 1981. It included two songs, Dizzidence Politik and Françoise. Their most known song is "l'aventurier" (french for "adventurer") which has been covered by Nada Surf. As of 2006 they have released 11 albums and have had several member line up changes through the years. They are very famous in french-speaking Europe and Canada. Indochine has worked with important people in music such as Brian Molko, David Bowie, Robert Smith and Melissa Auf Der Maur.

The song "Dizzidence Politik" by Indochine is a commentary on the oppressive political climate in the Soviet Union during the Cold War era. The lyrics condemn the government's use of psychiatric hospitals to silence political dissidents, with the line "Hopital psychiatrik, staliniste politik" (Psychiatric hospital, Stalinist politics). The use of Mogadon, a sedative drug, is also mentioned, highlighting the government's attempts to silence those who spoke out against them.
The chorus of "Fa ba da pap" is a nonsensical chant, perhaps meant to mirror the senselessness of the actions taken by the Soviet regime. The use of the phrase "destruction de ton nom" (destruction of your name) speaks to the government's efforts to erase dissident voices and their legacies.
The song ends with the repeated line "Now, I wanna wanna tell you what to do and you think it's you my bloody soul," which could be interpreted as a critique of the Soviet regime's attempts to control and manipulate the people.
Overall, "Dizzidence Politik" is a powerful commentary on the dangers of totalitarianism and the importance of free expression.
