They gave their first concert at "Le Rose bonbon", a café in Paris on 29 September 1981. This brief performance on stage earned them their first contract with a record company.
They recorded their first single in November 1981. It included two songs, Dizzidence Politik and Françoise. Their most known song is "l'aventurier" (french for "adventurer") which has been covered by Nada Surf. Manifesto
Indochine Lyrics

Je suis
Je crie
Je prie
On deviendra
On deviendra ces divisions de la joie
On restera
Et tu verras
Et tu verras la beauté de nos choix
Et on sera
Et on sera crucifié nos bras en croix
On signe, on se suit
On brille, et on choisit
On fuit, sur nos vies
On prie, pour nos vies
Je réalise
Je réalise tout ce qui nous divise
Tu réalises
Tu réalises tous ceux qui nous méprisent
Et on deviendra
On deviendra ces divisions de la joie
Et tu sauras
Et je saurai trouver qui nous unira
On deviendra
On deviendra ces divisions de la joie
On restera
On restera des armées de sang-froid
Et on haïra
On méprisera l'empire américain
Et on saura
Et on pourra maîtriser notre destin
The lyrics of Indochine's song "Manifesto" convey a sense of unity, rebellion, and empowerment. The repetition of "Je signe, Je suis, Je crie, Je prie" emphasizes the importance of personal expression and taking a stand for one's beliefs. The lines "On deviendra, On deviendra ces divisions de la joie" suggest a desire to join together as a unified force, while "On restera, On restera des armées de sang-froid" indicates a commitment to remaining cool and collected in the face of opposition. The lyrics also express a level of disillusionment with those who would seek to divide and belittle them, with lines such as "Je réalise tout ce qui nous divise" and "Tu réalises tous ceux qui nous méprisent."
The repetition of "Et tu verras, Et tu sauras" creates a sense of anticipation and confidence that they will overcome any obstacles they are facing. The final lines of the song, "Et on haïra, On méprisera l'empire américain, Et on saura, Et on pourra maîtriser notre destin" further illustrate a sense of rebellion and resistance against the dominant powers that be. Overall, "Manifesto" is a song about courage, hope, and the power of collective action.
