'Don't sit under the apple tree, with anyone else but me. Anyone else but me...

Don't sit under the apple tree, with anyone else but me.

Why were you singing that?

Because you were singing. in your sleep...'
'My daddy was a dollar, i wrote it on a fence.

My daddy was a dollar, not worth 100 cents.'

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Infected Mushroom's song "Anyone Else but Me" seem to draw on nostalgia and themes of exclusivity in relationships. The lines "don't sit under the apple tree, with anyone else but me" are actually a reference to an old song from the 1940s. The song "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree (With Anyone Else but Me)" became popular during WWII as a reminder to soldiers overseas to stay faithful to their partners back home. The playful and catchy tone of the original song is juxtaposed with the darker, more sinister tone of Infected Mushroom's version, suggesting a sense of possessiveness and control.

The lyrics also include the lines "why were you singing that? because you were singing in your sleep..." which adds a dreamlike quality to the song, further emphasizing the theme of nostalgia and longing. The next line, "my daddy was a dollar, I wrote it on a fence" is a clever wordplay on the saying "my daddy was a rolling stone". The line "my daddy was a dollar, not worth 100 cents" seems to suggest that the singer's father was worthless or had a low value, which contrasted with the dreamlike tone of the rest of the song.

Holy shit, I haven't heard this track of theirs before. I recommend Winamp Milkdrop 2.0 Visualization for those who don't have that media player. Suits this type of music well. Infected won't quit, and I couldn't be happier about it. I hope they infect all of us, lol, this music is imperishable and invaluable.
