Dead END
Inflames Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Save all your prayers
I think we're lost today
There's no morning after
No one's around to blame

I'm not afraid to bleed
But I will do it for you
We'll start among hypocrites
The melody of our time

So say goodbye to the world
We are the dead that walk the earth

Scream your lungs out
Await for laughter
You don't have to wait forever
It's the next disaster

What decides when you've lost the war
When the first man falls
Or when they erase it all

We're too numb to feel
The downfall starts right here
Hold your breath and swim
Swallowed by life's tear

In times of make believe
No one really seems to care
Maybe I should care less
'Cause I will die too

So say goodbye to the world
We are the dead that walk the earth

Scream your lungs out
Await for laughter
You don't have to wait forever
It's the next disaster

What will it take for us to realize
The more we provoke
Winter will come twice

Save all your prayers
I think we're lost today
There's no morning after
No one's around to blame

Scream your lungs out
Await for laughter
You don't have to wait forever
It's the next disaster

Scream your lungs out
Await for Laughter

You don't have to wait forever
It's the next disaster

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Inflames’ “Dead End” speak to a sense of resignation that pervades the world. The sense of being lost is palpable, and there’s a sense that nothing can be done to rectify the situation. The opening line, “Save all your prayers / I think we’re lost today,” sets the tone for the rest of the song. It’s almost as if the singer is saying that there’s no point in trying to plea with a higher power for help, because no one is listening.

The second stanza takes on an introspective tone as the singer declares that they are “not afraid to bleed” for someone they care about. The line “We’ll start among hypocrites / The melody of our time” suggests that the world is a hypocritical place where people are more concerned with appearances than with actually doing the right thing.

The refrain of the song, “So say goodbye to the world / We are the dead that walk the earth,” suggests a sense of finality. It’s almost as if the singer is saying that they have given up on the world and its inhabitants. The final stanza suggests that there may still be a glimmer of hope, however. “What will it take for us to realize / The more we provoke / Winter will come twice,” seems to suggest that the only way to fix the world is to stop provoking each other and work together.

Overall, “Dead End” conveys a sense of despair about the world, but also hints at the possibility of redemption if people can get past their differences and work together.

Trigger and Cloud Connected were the songs that got me into In Flames back in 2004 (I think, give or take a year). Dead End, however, is the track that will stick with me forever. Favourite song of theirs

Viele, viele Jahre später höre ich dieses Stück zum ersten Mal und liebe die Stimme von Lisa. Richtig gut passt ihre Stimme in dieses Stück.
