Holy Water
Inglorious Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Help me, I'm in trouble
I've fallen to my knees, yeah
I pray you'll give me something
My soul it is in need

Oh, I don't stand proud
As my girl she washes me
I drown, her water's holy
My soul it is diseased

Holy water, take my soul take me
No, love ain't where it's at, but it's all, all I need

Been tried and tested
The world she comes for me
She put me in the gutter, I long to be free

Holy water, take my soul take me
Love ain't where it's at, but it's all, all I need

Holy water, take my soul take me
No, love ain't where it's at, but it's all, all I need

Take my soul

Take it baby, baby
Oh

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Inglorious's song "Holy Water" express a sense of desperation and a plea for redemption. The singer admits to being in trouble and fallen on their knees, asking for something to save their soul, which they admit is in need. The metaphor of holy water comes into play, as the singer implicates that their soul is diseased and is in need of something pure to heal it. They repeat the refrain, "Holy water, take my soul, take me," expressing a willingness to be purified, even if it means losing their identity in the process.

The singer seems to be going through a personal crisis, where they feel they've been "tried and tested" by the world and have ended up in the gutter. They long to be free from this state of being and seem to be seeking an escape through the holy water. They emphasize that "love ain't where it's at, but it's all, all I need," perhaps alluding to a search for self-love, acceptance, and redemption. The final line, "Take my soul, take it baby, baby," further reinforces the idea of surrender and an acceptance of the purification process.

Overall, the lyrics to "Holy Water" can be interpreted as a metaphor for a personal crisis, where the singer seeks redemption and a sense of belonging through a purification process. The metaphor of holy water and the idea of surrendering one's soul to be purified can be seen as a symbol of faith, allowing the singer to find peace and healing within themselves.

So awesome and emotional. I love it when hard rock bands play blues from time to time. I saw you at Warsaw and you actually sound a lot better live than on the record. If anyone has a chance to see Inglorious live I highly recommend doing so! Keep rockin!

@superhoops08

Not just the best track of 2016. But the best new British group of their generation. Hard rock/blues/melodic rock/heavy rock? NO
Just BLOODY GOOD. Go see ' em at Camden Music Machine soon. Don't hang about - it will soon sell out. Don't be disappointed......

+Mark Askew It's more blues than rock and most old rockers are making the mistake of not rocking. l That's what my buddy next to me is saying. Personally, I like it but his opinion and he said this style is predictable and worn out because it packs no punch. People want to be picked up, they want to rock not slow down but that's his opinion. I like it and yes, I find it reminiscent of Bad Company and Glenn Hughes in Black Country Communion as far as they songwriting and vocals go. I'm looking forward to hearing the other tracks off of this. :) Rock on!!

@riffmagos

Fortunately, your friend is wrong. There are albums by other new bands with nothing but fast rockers, and it gets VERY boring, very quickly. Good bands know when the need for a more laid back song is needed.

@caltriton6904

All the songs arent like this on the album. It just changes up the pace of the songs. Your buddy is wrong, buddy. A ferrari is a ferrari no matter what decade. They dont get tired.
