Lady In Spain
Ingrid Michaelson Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'll sing a haunting refrain
I am a lady from Mars
And I can unscrew the stars
I can be anything that I see
I can be anything that I, anything that I see
I am in love with a boy
So I shall unravel my love
Like an old red woolen glove
I can do anything I want to
I can do anything I want, anything my heart tells me to do
Tells me to do
Tells me to do
I can be anything that I see
I can do anything I want to
I can do anything I want to
I can be anything that I, anything that I see
Ingrid Michaelson's song Lady In Spain is an electro-pop track that seems to explore themes of personal freedom and self-expression. The lyrics tell the story of a woman who sees herself as a lady from Spain or even a lady from Mars. This woman has the power to sing a haunting refrain and even unscrew the stars. She feels empowered to be anything that she sees, free to be whoever she wants to be, and driven by the desires of her heart.
However, as the song progresses, we see an interesting contrast to this sense of freedom. The woman sings of being in love with a boy who was manufactured to destroy, suggesting that she is in a complicated or even flawed relationship. She sees herself as unraveling her love, much like an old red woolen glove, which is open to interpretation but may signify a loss of protection or feeling exposed. Despite this, the woman maintains that she can do anything she wants to and be anything that she sees.
The overall message of Lady In Spain may encourage listeners to embrace their individuality and recognize that they have the power to be anything that they want to be, even in the face of complicated or challenging situations.
