Sherman
Injected Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I measure time in seconds between cigarettes
Don't mind choking on cold regrets
Enamored with the possibility of getting
So blind I don't want to see
Be everything you didn't want to be
Let apathy set you free

Everything you hated
We sold our souls to walk right on past you
How long I've waited, unimportant, frustrated

Scream the lines at people between cigarettes
Don't mind taking something I haven't had yet
Been splitting my head til I can't see
So you lay it all out right in front of me

No time to wonder what you're gonna be
Let apathy set you free

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Injected's song "Sherman" are about living with indifference and how it can be a coping mechanism for destructive behavior. The opening line of the song, "I measure time in seconds between cigarettes," sets the tone of addiction and self-destructive behavior. The singer seems to enjoy choking on his own regrets, and he's blindly enamored with the possibility of getting high. He doesn't want to see the consequences of his actions, and he encourages others to do the same. He tells us to "be everything you didn't want to be" and "let apathy set you free." In other words, he's asking us to stop caring so we can live more freely.

The chorus of the song describes how the singer has gone against his own beliefs and sold out for success: "Everything you hated, we sold our souls to walk right on past you. How long I've waited, unimportant, frustrated." The singer laments the fact that he's become everything he used to hate just to get ahead. He's frustrated with himself for making the choices he's made, but he acknowledges that he doesn't really care anymore. The second verse of the song repeats the same themes but adds a sense of urgency. The singer screams at people between cigarettes and takes things he hasn't had yet. He's splitting his head so he can't think, and he encourages others to do the same. He lays it all out in front of us so we can see what it's like to live without caring. He doesn't have time to wonder what he's going to be, and neither should we. We should just let apathy set us free.
