The reggae group Inner Circle was formed in 1968 by the brothers Ian and Roger Lewis in Jamaica. At first they covered soul and R&B hits from the United States, and then also a few reggae songs, predominantly from Bob Marley.
The band released two albums as The Inner Circle in 1974 for jamaican label "Starapple"(and they were distributed by "Trojan" in UK), and resigned to Capitol Records in 1976, and Island Records(where the internationally successful album "Everything Is Great" originated. This album reached top 20 in the UK and preceded their other chart success by some years) in 1979.
Inner Circle was decidedly influenced through the original member Jacob Miller, the frontman and lead singer who was killed in a car crash on March 23, 1980. At the end of the 1970s Inner Circle with Jacob "Killer" Miller was more popular in Jamaica than Bob Marley. The band also appeared in the reggae cult film Rockers in 1978.
After the loss of Jacob Miller, Inner Circle broke up, but in 1982 another album called Something So Good was released. In 1986 Ian and Roger Lewis reestablished Inner Circle with the singer Carlton Coffie, and the band experienced a comeback with the album Black Roses.
In 1989, Inner Circle released the song "Bad Boys." Since then, the band calls itself "The Bad Boys of Reggae". They had another big hit with the 1993 song "Sweat (A La La La La Long)."
The lead singer Carlton Coffie was ill for a long period in 1995 and decided after his recuperation to start a solo career. The current singer Kris Bentley took his place.
When Will I See You Again

And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again
Damn who knew all the planes we flew
Good things we've been through
Talking to you about another path I
Know we loved to hit the road and laugh
But something told me that it wouldn't last
Had to switch up look at things different see the bigger picture
Those were the days hard work forever pays now I see you in a better place
How could we not talk about family when family's all that we got?
Everything I went through you were standing there by my side
And now you gonna be with me for the last ride
It's been a long day without you my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
when I see you again
First you both go out your way
And the vibe is feeling strong and what's
Small turn to a friendship a friendship
Turn into a bond and that bond will never
Be broke and the love will never get lost
And when brotherhood come first then the line
Will never be crossed established it on our own
When that line had to be drawn and that line is what
We reach so remember me when I'm gone
How could we not talk about family when family's all that we got?
Everything I went through you were standing there by my side
And now you gonna be with me for the last ride
So let the light guide your way hold every memory
As you go and every road you take will always lead you home
It's been a long day without you my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again
The lyrics of Inner Circle's When Will I See You Again speak of a longing to reunite with a friend or loved one after a long period of being apart. The opening line sets the tone for the song, conveying a sense of emptiness and loneliness that comes with prolonged separation. The singer promises to catch up on everything that has happened in their absence when they finally reunite with the person they are addressing.
Throughout the song, the lyrics reference the memories they shared and express a deep gratitude for the times they spent together. The singer reflects on how far they've come since they met, acknowledging the challenges they faced but also the love and support that kept them together. The chorus repeats the feeling of anticipation and excitement for the reunion that they hope is coming.
The second verse adds a layer of emotional weight to the song, emphasizing the importance of family and brotherhood. The lyrics describe how friendships can turn into bonds that are unbreakable, and how the love they share will never be lost. The lines "established it on our own / when that line had to be drawn" suggest that the friendship was tested at some point, but they were able to work through it and build something stronger.
Overall, the lyrics of When Will I See You Again resonate with anyone who has experienced a long period of separation from someone they love. It highlights the importance of family, friendship, and brotherhood, reminding us that even when we are physically apart, the memories and love we share keep us connected.
