Inner City's debut album, also entitled "Big Fun" (Virgin Records, US) / "Paradise" (elsewhere) was released in 1989. The second single from the debut LP was the smash hit "Good Life," which has become one of Inner City's most memorable tracks gaining major airplay on MTV and peaking at #4 on the UK charts. The debut album also spawned a few other club hits such as "Do You Love What You Feel" and "Ain't Nobody Better."
Kevin Saunderson went on to release three more albums under the Inner City name: 1990's "Fire," 1992's "Praise," and 1993's "Testament," which all yielded successful singles but could not match the chart-topping "Big Fun" and "Good Life."

Just a funky beat, and you to get it started and oh
We'll dance the night away
We're having big fun
And the party's just begun, yeah
We're having big fun
Big fun
You just feel the groove, and baby then you move it and oh
Oh, dance the night away
We're having big fun
And the party's just begun yeah, yeah yeah yeah
We're having big fun
Big fun
I think you're ready, ready
Now it's time to join the party, baby
Let's get stoned into the pool
If you make your body move
Oh, oh, tonight
We're having big fun
The party's just begun, yeah
We're having big fun
Big fun
We're having big fun
We're having big fun
The party's just begun, yeah
We're having big fun
Big fun
We're having big fun
The party's just begun, yeah
We're having big fun
The lyrics to Inner City's song "Big Fun" convey the idea that having a good time doesn't require anything elaborate. The song suggests that all someone needs is a good beat and some enthusiasm to get the party going. The repetition of the phrase "we're having big fun" reinforces the idea that the experience of enjoying oneself is what's most important. The song also ditches the traditional idea of a party needing a large crowd to be a good time, suggesting that the feeling of the individuals involved dancing to the music can be just as rewarding.
The lyrics also suggest a spirit of spontaneity, with lines like "It won't take a lot of thought for you to do it/You just feel the groove, and baby then you move it." This attitude towards dancing fits well with the simple, catchy melody and the rhythmic beat. Overall, "Big Fun" encourages listeners to embrace the moment, to let go of inhibitions, and to immerse themselves in the music.
