So who is the true "inventor" and genius? The neanderthals?

There are some close resemblences of motives from Holst from Planets but instead of seeing this as a plagiat like you do true lovers of great music see it as a homage.

Mr. Williams obviously was inspired by Holst work but he did something new and unique with the similar motives and is for my personal taste WAY more emotional but this is because it branded me when I was 4.5 yrs old when I (after MUCH MUCH begging) was allowed to see SW New Hope 1978 in my European movie theatre when it aired here.

Me too. To this day the music starting is connected to great memories and still kicks the adrenaline up! The walls in our theater lobby were papered with aluminum foil. So much fun!

Before instant everything, it meant something to go to a movie and never know when or if you might get to again. I stick with the first 3, but my kids have seen them all. My grandson's journey to a galaxy far, far away has just begun. Thankfully his parents started him with the original. It's amazing how one man's vision, talent, and perseverance have changed the world.

I just went to the link, listened to the music, liked it immensely and bookmarked it. My feeling is who cares if it is a "rip", and that is not said with no disrespect whatsoever. If that piece was done in 1914, maybe SW was a way to introduce a lot of us to the music. Your job is done. You've got this retired person hooked on it for life, hmmm, however much of that is left ,lol. I hope to heck I made some sense in all this. So I thank you both because the knowledge you have put out here has made me richer for it.

John Williams holds the title for being the person with the most influence on my love of music, cinematic scores, Broadway shows, classical music, etc. He's been a part of my life and in my ear for decades in so many ways. I feel blessed to be soooo fortunate to have him do the scores for every STAR WARS film, plus his other scores for Indiana Jones, Superman, Jaws, E.T., Harry Potter, and Jurassic Park. That's 45 years of genius and cultural impact that might not ever be duplicated.

I was 7, in the U.K., when this came out. The buzz around this film was tremendously exciting and I got thoroughly caught up in it. The misfits in class loved it, but not so much the rough kids or the girls. They did not seem to get it. I still love the film. It was, and still is, pure cinematic magic.

This is, and always will be, my favourite movie of all time! Luke, Han, Leia and Chewie are my John, Paul, George and Ringo. This film is my holy bible. It has inspired me, entertained me, made me laugh, made me cry, made me feel hopeful, made me feel empowered, made me feel like I can do anything. Everything about this flick is perfection to me!

There's a special and unique kind of emotion that I feel while watching the original trilogy, especially now as a grownup. I first saw A New Hope when I was 5 years old, at a drive-in theater. I was freaking hooked and spent the next 6 years gobbling up any information on episodes 5 and 6. I subscribed to Bantha Tracks, the official Star Wars fan mag, and became a member of the Star Wars fan club. I'd get stickers and other trinkets in the mail each month. What a glorious time to be alive!

Love all John Williams music!! Hardest working, most prolific and brilliant film composer EVER. I was blessed with a 55 year career as a studio singer and had the honor and privilege to work with Mr. Williams on several occasions. A kinder, more humble man you’d never meet. I may be older than Palpatine himself. I owned this soundtrack once. In the fall of 1977. On 8 track.
It was on an old Panasonic "TNT" 8 track player with the plunger type mechanism on the top to change tracks. Ours was the bright yellow one.
Listened to the newly released Queen-A Night at the Opera album on that yellow thing thing a couple of years earlier. Ah...memories.

But I still remember when we only had a black and white TV with a rabbit ear antenna apparatus that you would wrap with aluminium foil to "boost the signal". Three whole channels. Five if you counted the UHF PBS channels in our area. And the test screen that showed up at the end of the broadcast day at midnight, just after the local channel affiliate would play a recording of the U.S. national anthem. And the sign on screen in the morning when broadcasting started up for the day.

I love this so much. The characters, story, music, everything is just so wonderful.

I saw this film in the theatre the summer it opened. I was 11, raised on Star Trek and Space: 1999 and the novels of Robert Heinlein, and this movie blew my mind. I was lost to Sci Fi for the rest of my life. Now, 45 years later, I don't even need to watch it anymore; I just need to listen to the soundtrack. Life-changing. Regardless of what has happened to Star Wars in the years since, I'll never forget that summer.

I was blessed with a busy studio singing career for 60 years during which time I had the honor of working with Mr. Williams on several occasions, when recording Close Encounters of the Third Kind I talked to him about how much I loved Star Wars. As an 8 year old in 1977, my fragile little mind was blown, very hard for 21st century heads to viscerally have the same experience... you had to be there. I'm 53 and there's still a little nostalgic tingle... the smells, sound and light of the 70's come flooding back to me, freckled faces, summer sun, bad haircuts and scary hot older girls soaked in tanning oil wearing crochet bikinis.

Back in 1980 I had my first VHS. I had a friend in the video business and he knew people who bootleg movies on a format called UMatic (3/4" video tape rather than the VHS 1/2" tape) He made me a copy of Star Wars on VHS. It wasn't the greatest copy but it was watchable. I thought it was so cool that I had a copy of Star Wars long befor it was a rental in video stores.

There are some movies that, after watching them you just wish you could forget you've seen them just so you can go and watch them again for the first time.

Back in 1977 I went to see Star Wars, over and over, and over, and over et al. My brother would take me to the cinema, he'd ask (already knowing the answer) 'What do you want to go and see?'.

To be honest I think he was secretly glad to be seeing it over and over as well, he never complained.

Some years back we were talking about it, for some reason in my memory I recalled seeing it 8 times, when I said that he guffawed and said "Try 20!!" 😆

I remember seeing this in the theaters as a child yes I am that old LOL and I remember saving every bit of my allowance just to go see it again. And now my children who are grown and my granddaughter who is four absolutely love this movie!! This movie paved the way for so many others, that I cannot imagine a world without this!

Well, not anymore, but as of 1983 it was. I guess Battle for Endor and Caravan of Courage are endearing, but the Prequels are a mess, and the JJ films seem to pander to fascists rather than critique them, which was the point of the original trilogy, and episode 9 undoes everything in episode 8, making the sequel trilogy an incoherent mess. But, it was pretty great. I'm hoping the new Dune movies will make up for how abysmal the more recent SW movies have been.

I was 7 years old when STAR WARS first came out. Me & my whole family went & seen STAR WARS at a Movie Theater. It was Cool. We all went out 2 eat dinner first. And then we all went 2 c STAR WARS. Not a New Hope. It was just plain old STAR WARS.

As I grew up with this music, and later on trained as a part time conductor, I could follow the main theme to the beat, without looking at the score, know it that well
