They pl… Read Full Bio ↴Intronaut is a post-metal band from Los Angeles, California.
They play in the style of progressive metal with some harsh vocals, as well as, more recently, melodic vocals and vocal harmonies, combined with progressive and jazzy instrumental breaks. Their sound incorporates traits from prog rock, sludge metal, Indian, African, and Afro-Latin rhythms, as well as a heavy jazz influence.
Intronaut features guitarist/vocalist Sacha Dunable, guitarist/vocalist/percussionist David Timnick, drummer Danny Walker, and bassist Joe Lester. In 2005, Intronaut released a four-track demo entitled Null – Demonstration Extended Play Compact Disc. They signed to Goodfellow Records in October, and in early April 2006, recorded Void at Shiva Industries in Santa Ana, California with producer John Haddad.
In August 2007, guitarist/vocalist Leon del Muerte left the band to focus on his Murder Construct project. He was replaced by Dave Timnick.
Shortly thereafter Intronaut toured Europe for the first time, supporting the heavy prog-metal band The Ocean.
In January 2008, the band announced that they had signed a world wide deal with Century Media Records, and completed their next album, Prehistoricisms. They also covered Eyehategod's Dixie Whiskey for the Century Media 20th Anniversary cover album.
In April 2009, Intronaut went on tour with Kylesa and Mastodon to support Mastodon's release of Crack the Skye.
In October 2009, Intronaut played several shows in front of thousands of fans in Kolkata and in Pragati Maidan, Delhi for the Great Indian Rock Festival XIII.
In the summer of 2010, Intronaut released their third full-length album, Valley of Smoke, featuring a guest appearance from Justin Chancellor from Tool.
In late 2010, Intronaut opened for Cynic as part of Cynic's "Re-Traced/Re-Focused Tour" all over the United States and Canada, and shortly thereafter toured North America again opening for Helmet.
In mid-2011, Intronaut will tour North America with Animals As Leaders, Dead Letter Circus, and Last Chance To Reason.
Elegy
Intronaut Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And our skulls, and our backs
We lay underneath you
Obscured by centuries
And cry in horror
Haunted by the terror
The lyrics of Intronaut's song Elegy are metaphorical and esoteric. The opening line "Mystery brought by the cracks in time" suggests that there is something hiding in the past, which cannot be unravelled or resolved. The following line, "And our skulls, and our backs," implies the burden which the characters in the song are carrying. They are lugging these burdens, shoulders slumped and heads bowed, and trying to dig through the layers of time to uncover something.
In the next line, the characters can be imagined lying beneath something – which could be the weight of the past, or perhaps something more physical like rubble. They are revealed to be "obscured by centuries" and crying out in horror, highlighting the tremendous struggle they are undertaking to gain some kind of understanding or resolution. Finally, the lines "Haunted by the terror, Half-charred, annihilated" could be interpreted in various ways – perhaps the characters are searching for meaning in the wake of some kind of severe trauma.

When I listen to this album I find it contains nothing but pure perfection. Purefection, if you will. Listening to Intronaut, I've found that there are many interesting musical ideas to take note of, such as the way they apply harmony to their riffs, how they construct grooves, create awesome atmosphere, have an awesome songwriting sense, etc. which have all contributed to making me a better musician. I consider them to be the best in their genre/style. On the other hand... maybe I'm just high.

Hell yeah, brother. Cheers.

The only thing I can say these guys and Mastodon have in common is using maybe 7 lines of words to make a song and somehow stretch it for 7 minutes. Alot of bands can't even use a 1000 words and make a decent 2 min song haha. I love how they can mellow out the song then hit you in the face a sec later. Definately another fav band along with Gojira and Mastodon.

What a bizarre band, in the most awesome way. With my music tastes, I'm utterly stunned I haven't heard them before! What an odd combination, stoner doom, sludge, and djent? And that jazzy bass interlude with the polyrythmic drums, and the almost oceansize-ish shoegaze-ish guitars over the top, and an almost opeth-like song structure swaying between aggression and beauty. Wtf.

I heard them open for Tool last Saturday, and they made an impression on me. They certainly are a band I have been looking into since then. Amazing vocals and drums as well as an all around good sound. I'll be watching for them more now.
