Mike Hulme, aka Introspective, has undoubtedly achieved unrivalled recognition as one of Breakbeat’s rising stars. Since his opening track ‘Time Travel’ (Aug, 03) released on the pioneering Breakbeat label Sinister Recordings, Introspective has received critical acclaim from some of the most established and respected DJ’s/Producers in the business.

Rennie Pilgrem quoted, “Introspective is one of the hottest names on the circuit right now” (IDJ Magazine), Meat Katie stating “Introspective will be massive”, URB Magazine saying “Introspective is quickly becoming one of the hottest new artists in breaks, with his superb blend of melodies, heavy beats, and a tinge of funk”. Such acclaim signifies Introspective truly has an exciting future ahead of him.

Described as ‘ecstasy in music form’ (Streetwise Records), his debut remix of Splitloop’s ‘Klaxx’ was nominated at the Breakspoll awards for best remix. Introspective’s completely re-vamped version saw it getting heavy radio play on Radio 1 (Koma & Bones/Fergie) and Kiss FM (Tayo/Jay Cunning) and was also short-listed for Bedrock Breaks III mixed by Meat Katie. This remix quickly set the foundations for even better things to come from the talented London-based producer.

The second Introspective single for Sinister, “Slavery Incorporated” reached the Breakbeat top 3 world sales charts and at #11 for two months in DJ Mags Beats and Breaks chart it received even more critical acclaim than his past productions. Introspective seems to have the rare ability to improve on his last work.

In May 2004, Introspective stepped up along side Lee Coombs to provide a remix of Atomic Hooligan’s “Shine a Light”, released on Botchit and Scarper. The June edition of DJ Magazine Hyper quoted, “This guy’s remix of Atomic Hooligan’s recent single was the clear winner on the package”. The remix received an abundance of DJ reactions from the likes of BLIM, Plump DJs, Hyper, Meat Katie, Elite Force, James Zabiela, etc, Introspective was once again cited by Rennie Pilgrem as a 'Very promising new act who has turned in a wicked club version of Atomic Hooligan’s latest smash (and grab)’. The remix also appeared on acclaimed ‘Fabric Live 21’ CD mixed by Meat Katie.

Off the back of the Atomic Hooligan remix, Mike was asked by world-renowned Trance guru Matt Darey to step up and remix the ‘Eternity’ single for Darey Products. The remix received great support from top breaks & trance DJs alike, whilst also reaching Paul Van Dyk’s top 5 chart for April 06. Matt was so impressed with Mike’s remix that the pair are now collaborating on a joint breaks project working with vocalist Tiff Lacey (ATB, Paul Oakenfold, Lost Witness).

Playing funky tech house and breaks, Mike has been heard displaying his DJ skills for Tayo’s Kiss 100FM show, Breaks FM, Angus Robinson’s Proton Radio show, live on Elite Force’s Strong Arm Sessions in Hungary with a live mix on Tilos Radio. After hosting the Melting Pot show on Pulse Radio for 6 months alongside Southpaw, the duo has recently moved stations and secured a bi-weekly slot on iBreaks Radio.

Mike’s DJing skills were also seen in full swing at this year’s ‘Drop Beats Not Bombs’ in Birmingham when he played a peak-time set to a 800+ crowd for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament
and Campaign Against The Arms Trade. Following the success of the event, Introspective has been asked back to perform at the next festival.

With gigs lined up in Europe and Japan later this year and with more releases and remixes through Sinister, Introspective is by all accounts, one to watch…

Jeremy Rice used the moniker "Introspective" until 2008, when he changed his band name to "Curious Inversions". Introspective's music grew from the "Tracker Scene" in the mid-1990s to a hard-and-soft-synth style in the early 2000s. Best known for releasing ambient tracks on netlabels such as Kahvi, Kikapu, and Nishi, Introspective also released some downbeat and chillout music, and on "Gewesen EP", classic Berlin School style electronica.

Introspective's characteristic sounds were created primarily with a Yamaha EX5, LinPlug Albino, and GeForce ImpOscar, though he made use of a few other synthesizers such as Reaktor (particularly the "Weedwhacker" ensemble) and VirSyn TERA. All of these were stolen in 2007, forcing Jeremy to create a new approach to music, out of which grew Curious Inversions.

All of Introspective's Music (as released by Jeremy Rice, NOT Mike Hulme) is released under the least restrictive licensing available with the label: usually Creative Commons Attribution. Re-mixing, inclusion in collections, derivative works, and even commercial distribution (with attribution) are not only allowed, but encouraged. And, of course, this means all of his music is freely and legally downloadable across the internet.

I strongly recommend writing down your thoughts and keep a record of them. It's a useful catharsis. It's also a good way of understanding yourself better, piece by piece. Hope this helps.

During the course of our lives, especially if one suffers from low self-esteem, one tends to blame oneself if an event goes wrong. School of Life, how does one forgive oneself? if youve lost your zest for life, you may need to connect with your feelings. This involves really sitting with your feelings, feeling them, then looking at them and inspecting them, finding out what they are connected to- why you are feeling them, offering yourself compassion, and then letting the feelings go. Can be useful to have a therapist or reading a book related to this.

I'm going through this right now actually. I've been thinking Why am I so hard on myself? Why do I feel I have to constantly apologize to others for my existence? Why do I quit almost everything I start? Why do I have the courage to start new, and exciting things, but don't have the confidence, or the worth to follow through? I actually brought this up to my dad and siblings last night while were talking. I've been digging into my past, and seeing where it started, and obviously it starts out mostly from our caretakers, and then stems onto us. For me it's not enough to think I forgive this person for being hard on me, thus making me hard on myself. I'm digging deep into the root of the problem, and making the actions required to truly forgive. Getting my mind, and my heart on the same page of forgiveness, which takes a lot more time for the heart to get there in my opinion. It takes a lot of work. For me, it's pinpointing who made me feel unworthy of existence, and why? Pinpointing the sufferings they are dealing with, how they've dealt with them, why they act the way they do, and who made them suffer for them to have acted that way towards me?
I've recently become aware of the issues i'm dealing with, now I'm understanding where it came from(caretakers, and family). Next, I plan on taking actions required to forgive the ones that unintentionally deeply rooted these thought patterns/feelings into me, especially since I have a strained relationship with one of them. I plan on writing both my caretakers cards/letters about how they made me feel growing up, the good and the bad, bringing up their troubled childhoods, and things that were stemmed onto them for them to act the way they do, so they know i'm not blaming them, just bringing awareness, and forgiveness to them, and myself. Maybe' i'll feel better just by writing them, and won't need to mail them. Part of me thinks it may not be a good idea, maybe it will strain a relationship, but maybe it will strengthen them, or maybe it will change them. All I know is that it's going to help me truly forgive, quit blaming, and fully accept that it is now my responsibility to acknowledge, accept, and to try and work with these issues.
I always think back to the part of Good Will Hunting(1 of my fav movies) where Robin Williams is talking to Matt Damon in the counseling room, and while they are discussing Matt Damons issues he tells him "It's not your fault", and he keeps repeating it to him until it sinks in, and he breaks down crying. We all have to realize that none of our thoughts/actions are necessarily "our fault", but we do need to work with them to truly prosper. By doing the introspective work, bring them out into the open, and working with them brings true acceptance, forgiveness, and healing. At least I'm hoping....

@justin gonzalez yes. if it doesn't use the scientific method then it is pseudoscience. if anyone believes your meaning of the scientific method. quantum mechanics still makes theories based on the observations in real life. it doesn't use the scientific method due to the fact that testing would change the result. which simply means that any of the theories it purports is unproven until we can find a way to observe it without affecting it.

it's not the same as introspection which has no basis in real life. your imagination or desire to give your mind importance is the same as the religious zealot's reason for believing in a god which has no evidence to back it. it just makes you feel special.

and as to how this is pseudoscience? I'll refer you to my previous quote of the definition of pseudoscience. and just for safe measure ill ask you to look up what the steps of the scientific method are.

I find interesting that in the story of the lion he rages at the village "at night", also the shepherd came to calmed him at night. I think whoever wrote the story had in mind that most of our painful thoughts AND meditational introspections happen at night away from the daily distractions.

I've been "addicted" to the same videogame for almost three years now, spent hundreds of dollars only to avoid my sense of underachievement and failure to adapt to the new and harsh reality of my country, Syria.
I've changed so much in the last few years, from a confident outgoing person to melancholic introvert cut off from the world outside. I refused every opportunity to leave the country, cocooned in my room holding tight to decade-old memories of people and places long gone. I'm always distant confused and edgy. What scares me most isn't death, of which there's plenty around, but failing to live life.

The trick to "living" life is not to get caught up on the definition of what living life means. Someone could be healthy and feel like they are "living" their life by collecting stamps, alone in a log cabin in Alaska. Someone could be disabled from the waist down, wheelchair stricken and unable to do the conventional "living" things that people think those who are alive do, jump cliffs, live on the edge etc. But What he does love is helping others, despite his condition he feels overwhelmingly content with just helping others once it doesn't negatively affect him. Are they wrong? Are their feelings of feeling "alive" false? Of course not. Its Subjective just like music and books are to people.

My point is: If you enjoy something, anything, and you feel you are happy and healthy both physically/socially, you are "living life". The fact that you are breathing to this day to tell this story is evidence of that fact. You are an amazingly complex creature, one that has defied all odds and spurted into existence. Your life is yours. No one else's. You own yourself and you can do what you please with yourself. Once your healthy as you try to be, you have the luxury of living how you like.

I Just wanted to say, i can't begin to imagine the situation you are in. No one, certainly not me can blame you for looking for an escape to the reality you are faced with. However given the fact that you searched for this video on introspection i hope you will find enlightenment soon.

Many of the ancient philosophers used to travel to the forest alone, and they would stay there for days or maybe weeks, they would just be thinking and thinking, watchin the others actions and doing a lot of reflection about life. I mean, they didn't have TV and Internet back then, so what they would be doing is working, talking to each other, and be thinking and sharing ideas, you see, my point here is that these ideas are born from reflection and a lot of introspection, most of the biggest artists and writers were lonely people, and it says so in a video of this channel called ''Why we are fated to be lonely'', ''the history of art is the memory of those who never found someone to talk to in the vicinity...''. At least this is my point of view, I'm a lonely person and due to that I've had the oportunity to get to know myself better, why do I do/like/hate this and why that, and so on.

This is quite fascinating in terms of timing. My advice to anyone out there is to be aware of your intrinsic preferences. I think regardless of whatever else you may be lacking or if you're messed up in some other ways, know what sort of person you are and thus what environment or people you require to be at least be content if enough happy. From there it should be easier to work on everything else assuming you don't get too content and distracted.

Introspection is undoubtedly a step in the right direction. Being aware of the belief systems we hold gives us a pathway towards the origins of many self held limiting beliefs. It is also equally important to not judge oneself about the belief systems that arise while introspecting, as many of them are very dark in nature, and are essentially the reason behind one's agony. Acknowledgement is the first step towards self-actualization.

Honestly something that changed my life in different aspects that I could never have even considered was writing down what I was thinking without holding back. I realized how little I know myself, what my priorities are, understand my problem solving techniques and the flaws I never noticed, leading to addressing repressed emotions I never identified as traumatic and I'm able to decipher everything providing a beaming light in the fog I was once in. Led me to finding myself and the ones I love. I truly recommend taking time throughout your day and especially before bed to let your mind breath on a tangible piece of paper you can reflect on.

When it comes to our inner turmoil, I don't believe we can accurately find out why something hurts. To understand ourselves is a never ending process that can quickly turn into overthinking and creating false, reasonable conclusions. The problem would still be there. I have found that asking "Why?" Is useless but asking "What?" Helps me pin point exactly what I can do in this moment and gain clarity to solve the problem. I don't care what happened to make me be how I am. I care about what I can do to work on it instead of ignoring it or hurting those I love.

Straight out of Plato first philosophical principle of life, Know yourself is indeed a significant first step to become a better person and have a good life. This is an important lesson that everyone, especially young people, should know. I'm still in 2nd year of college and I feel like this is a little doze of philosophical wisdom that college students need. Primarily for those who are still being plagued with that common what-I-want-to-do-in-life question. Wonderful video nonetheless

These things sound simple but I think in practice maybe very difficult, for example how do you look inside yourself and find what is really causing your suffering. And when you react angrily towards others etc you can feel really guilty, which I think doesn't help. I've heard that guilt can damage your self-esteem, and talking bad about others also can be damaging to you self esteem. It seems like things go around in vicious circles sometimes, old habits die hard

im a really shy and silent guy bc im too anxious speaking with anyone. i percieved everyone who i didnt knew as my enemys since everytime someone got to me and just greeted my i got intensly nervous and only repeated a quiet "hi" back.

I met someone who is extremly deep in his mind and understands a lot whats upsetting him and what he really wants in live. in short, hes good at introspective.
Before that i never really looked deep into me, bc i didnt bother i guess? And i put the fault on others all the time.
And after i looked at my feelings i was like, shit i know whats going on badly.

So yeah introspection is something extremly important in live that will improve your mental health and live.

I think it's incredibly important to point out that the most common thorne regular people have, is procrastination. I can at least surely vouch for it, as well as the liberation of plucking these thorns.

As someone who could likely be considered a "workaholic", it does somewhat hurt to hear. I was already aware of the problem, but it's difficult for me to lift a finger when I've already settled into a routine in my comfort zone. Although the video isn't just intended for me, thanks for this, I probably need it slammed in my face more.
Work gives a sense of fulfillment hard to find in other places, and seems to be used as a substitute for a lack of happiness throughout my life. I've always had a very low base level of happiness, as soon as I get acclimated to a situation, it resets. I have sought psychiatric help before, but it didn't work for me. I guess I'm what a sympathetic parent would call "different". The techniques and advice that would fit most didn't really fit me, and talking was little aid, so I eventually left.
I'm doing my best to deal with things on my own, since I don't have a lot of people, but I at least think I'm making progress.
I learned the difficult way I had to introspect. I even used to be a horrible insomniac.
This is a great video, sorry for venting.

When I was younger I had several different "personalities" for dealing with different groups of people. I was constantly paranoid of other kids and had bad social anxiety so I couldn't stand them knowing very much about me. Mental illness kicked in when I was around 15, and it all came crashing down on me as I realised I didn't have any of my own thoughts and feelings. It wasn't a feeling of depression, just true emptiness, with no actual understanding of any feelings.
I decided to start again with a blank slate as a personality, to try to find anything I could attempt to understand about myself, which made it much harder to relate to anyone, combined with the fact I find it very difficult to emote at all.
I still have a few friends and family vaguely in my life but I try to be emotionally self-sufficient these days. I focus my energy in areas other than people.
Overall, relating to people is extremely difficult. I feel like I'm from another planet.
