Slow Down
Intwine Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Dream it, you don't need to slow down
Run they make an edge
Jump over instead
Into the wonderful unknown
Of the darkness below
Beware the fall, it aint that long
Like a story you will be
All their dreams will make you free
Until those bubbles they collide
And keep you there inside
While all the needles that you've had
Have helped but now gave up as well
The lyrics of Intwine's song Slow Down, speak about moving on and letting go of something or someone that is no longer good for you, and chasing after your dreams without being held back. The first two lines of the song, "Leave it, you're better of alone now, Dream it, you don't need to slow down" give the sense that the singer is encouraging the person they are addressing to let go of something, whether it be a relationship or an old way of thinking or living. The chorus, "Run they make an edge, Jump over instead, Into the wonderful unknown" further emphasizes this idea of leaving behind the familiar and the safety of what one knows, and taking a leap into the unknown. The last line of the chorus warns against being too reckless, however, with the words, "Beware the fall, it ain't that long, Before you know you'll hit the ground," calling attention to the dangers of moving too quickly without thinking clearly.
The second verse of the song talks about how someone's dreams can be liberating, as the lyrics say, "Like a story you will be, All their dreams will make you free." However, the song also warns about how one can become trapped and stuck when reality sets in and things don't turn out as expected, as the lyrics continue, "Until those bubbles they collide, And keep you there inside, While all the needles that you've had, Have helped but now gave up as well." This line speaks to how sometimes our expectations and dreams can create a sort of protective bubble around us, keeping us safe from reality, but that bubble can only last so long before it bursts and we must deal with the consequences of our actions.
Overall, the song encourages the listener to pursue their dreams and to not be held back by fear or hesitation to leave behind what is no longer good for them. It is a motivating and empowering message that speaks to anyone who may be feeling stuck or unsure about taking that next step forward in life.
