Visitor
Iota Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Looking out of my window, when
They’re coming I don’t know
Waiting for my visitor to come
I’m waiting for
My visitor to come home
I can’t see if they’re flying
I can’t see if they’re driving
Waiting for my visitor to come
I’m waiting for
My visitor to come home
Misty shapes on rainy days
Reminding me of someone’s face
Turns into a crease
Upon my own thinking
Hard about nothing
A silhouette of
Something looking like
My visitor will come
I’m waiting for
My visitor to come home
Music drapes
My rainy days
Reminding me of
Friendly places
Time is off my side
And in my hands
People may forget my name
I forget how long I’ve waited
When they get here
I can say I didn’t think
That you were coming
Then they’ll smile and say
Of course we were sipping drinks
And feasts alone
Reminding me of empty tables

Fit for kings of
Empty things like me

Overall Meaning

The song "Visitor" by Iota is a melancholic reflection on waiting for someone or something to arrive. The first stanza sets the scene, with the singer looking out of their window and waiting for a visitor to arrive, unsure of when they will come. The second stanza adds to the uncertainty, as the singer cannot tell if the visitor is coming by plane, car or another means of transportation. The mood of waiting is palpable, as the repetition of waiting for "my visitor to come home" reinforces the sense of longing and anticipation.

In the third stanza, the wait becomes more introspective, with the singer thinking about the visitor and their absence. Misty shapes and rainy days remind the singer of someone's face, which turns into a crease upon their own brow as they think hard about nothing. The song shifts from the external waiting for the visitor to the internal anxiety and anticipation of their arrival. The silhouette of something looking like the visitor is what keeps the singer waiting, hoping for their return.

The final stanza brings in the theme of music, which drapes the rainy days and reminds the singer of friendly places. Time is off their side and in their hands, as they reflect on people possibly forgetting their name, yet they forget how long they have been waiting for this visitor. When they do finally arrive, the singer will act surprised and pretend they didn't expect them, yet they will be happy to see them and reminisce on their time together. The song ends on the theme of emptiness and the feeling of being unfit for kings, floating through life waiting for something to fill the void.

@wsmaga

wow, there's a lot going on with wiring this unit up. I'm installing one of these tomorrow, hopefully I get it correct.

@fonorati

How does it work with low voltage switching (PoE) and room controllers?

Hi Frank - sorry for the slow reply on your question. I suggest you contact our Tech Support team at 1-855-363-9527 so we can fully understand your application. The IIS Series inverters are UL Listed for emergency lighting loads only, so it would not be suitable for use as a back-up of a PoE switch. For emergency lighting requirements in a PoE application, take a look at our Power-over-Ethernet driver at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm_mpdbuCZ4
