My Girl
Iris Donnie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey I'm a lucky guy
I got her by my side
Sunday afternoon
I'll take her for a ride
Downtown all around town
Where everyone can see
This pretty thing
She belongs to me

[Chorus]
She's my baby
She's driving me crazy
She's got something I want you to see
Come on and show me
Show me a woman with a heart on fire
Oh show me
Show me a woman with a burning desire
You gotta show me
Show me a woman of the world
Oh and I'll show you my girl

I never knew how happy I could be
I'm digging her and the woman's digging me
Oh what a day
Got loving on my mind
Later on tonight
She'll let me know that I'm her baby

She's driving me crazy
She's got something I want you to see
Come on and show me
Show me a woman with a heart on fire
Please show me
Show me a woman with a burning desire
You gotta show me
Show me a woman of the world
Oh and I'll show you my girl
I'll show you my girl

(I'm so crazy)
Now some folks say I'm crazy about the lady
And I may be
Everybody is trying to clue me
She's a floozy and she'll use me
(You'd be crazy)
You'd be crazy about her kissing
If you knew of the loving you're missing
When I'm holding her tight
Yeah, I'm crazy all right
And there's nothing I'd rather be

[Chorus]

Very catchy song! I’m 57 years old & always listened to the radio as a teenager, but I just don’t know how I missed this song being popular.

Can’t believe Donnie’s 77 now! Born in February of 1943! Great song. This was actually a bigger hit than, “Ah! Leah!”

@dwightropp3014

Go figure! Although, "Ah! Leah!" charted highest in Canada (#6) than all of his other songs anywhere else, including this one (#25) on the mainstream Billboard pop charts. And his "Love Is Like A Rock" (1981) charted highest of all his songs on the Mainstream Rock charts in the US at #9, amazingly!
Funny how I only recall "Ah! Leah!", though.

@wtmjrchi1984

This song peaked at #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on this date (May 29, 1982), 41 years ago.

@TheDaniel2483

his last top 40 hit, reaching #25 on the pop charts in 1982!!!

@markrago5024

The greatest traditional rocker to emerge from the Ohio River Valley in the 80s. In all fairness, he always managed to keep it sounding fresh and relevant with a pinch of new wave weirdness in a big bowl of malt shop rock.

@CodeBleu724

Perfect description.
