The Scotsman
Irish Rover Lyrics

From the bonnie braes of Scotland to the shores of Waikiki
There I met my hula lassie who stole away me kilties
And left her hula skirt with me
We went roamin' in the gloamin' beneath the tropic coco trees
Arm in arm together we pledged our love forever
For she's the hula girl for me

Just a wee tune on the bagpipes and all the neighbours gather
Me and me hula lassie, me hula hula lassie we dance amang the heather
From the bonnie braes of Scotland to the shores of Waikiki
There I met my hula lassie who stole away me kilties
And left her hula skirt with me

Oh roamin' in the gloamin' on the bonnie banks of Clyde
Roamin' in the gloamin' wi' me lassie by me side
When the sun has gone to rest that's the time that I love best
Gee it's lovely roamin' in the gloamin'

Now when I play me bagpipes me friends all meet together
We do the Highland fling and the hula hula ring amang the bloomin' heather
From the bonnie braes of Scotland to the shores of Waikiki
There I met me hula lassie me hula hula lassie
And she's the only girl for me

From the bonnie braes of Scotland to the shores of Waikiki
There I met my hula lassie who stole away me kilties
And left her hula skirt with me
When I'm playing on the bagpipes she's as happy as can be
She strums her ukulele, me ukulele lady
Is the only hula girl for me

Oh roamin' in the gloamin' on the bonnie banks of Clyde
Roamin' in the gloamin' wi' me lassie by me side
When the sun has gone to rest that's the time that I love best
Gee it's lovely roamin' in the gloamin'

Oh roamin' in the gloamin' on the bonnie banks of Clyde
Roamin' in the gloamin' wi' me lassie by me side
When the sun has gone to rest that's the time that I love best
Gee it's lovely roamin' in the gloamin'

6. Our Scottish friend, still dressed in kilt,
Continued up the street
He hadn't gone ten yards or more,
When a lass he chanced to meet.
She said: "I've heard what's underneath there,
Tell me, is it so?"
He said: "Just slip your hand up, lass,
If y'really want to know!"

7. So she slipped her hand right up his kilt,
And much to her surprise,
The Scotsman smiled,
And a very strange look came into his eyes,
She said: "Why, sir, that's gruesome!"
And then she heard him roar:
"If you stick yer hand up once again,
You'll find it grew some more!"

I'm sure that someone has pointed out that this is NOT The Irish Rovers, Bryan but it is Bowers performing Mike Cross's song "The Scotsman" live at The 1980 Winfield National Flat Picking Festival.
The proper title is "The Scotsman", not "The drunk Scotsman".

Thank you Donald! To all who heard this song? Hopefully you will embrace the Scottish man and the heart that inspired the lyrics !!

@fullonsociopath

First heard this at work on the radio. Could not stop laughing at the ending. So good.

I almost wanna say that I'm shocked the Outlander fanbase hasn't been here and used a picture of Jamie for this :P

@Muay777Thai

Best song ever.

I agree

@davidhenry3650

The artist is Bryan Bowers, not the Irish Rovers, and the song title is "The Scotsman." It's on Bryan's CD "Home, Home on the Road."

@PHJimY

Bryan learned it from Mike Cross, who wrote it.

@rochellekentzel6610
