Bethesda tried to appeal to both fans of the Classics and new fans by basically putting everything all over the place. There is enough critiques about how Fallout 3 messes up the Enclave, the Brotherhood of Steel and the Supermutants, so I am not gonna add anything new.

Now, what it is true is that Fallout is Fallout thanks to Bethesda. Fallout 3 gameplay is very easy to new people, the mechanics are understandable and you learn easily what to do. Fallout 1 doesn't even have a tutorial and the the only two ways to learn how to play is either through many hours of trial and error or by reading its 120 pages long manual. And even then you have to get used to it by just playing it again and again. It can be frustating. Specially when Fallout 1 has a time limit, so if you want to succeed in your first play you either need to watch a walkthrough and follow it step by step or contantly save and reload. I have to say I bought both original Fallout games on Steam a couple of months back and I have only 3 hours in Fallout 1. I got killed like 3 times by the radscorpions on the first mission you got and I got frustated. Maybe sometime later I will try it again

I'd say more like 5-9 generations, far enough to put the event of the war into almost myth, only really kept in relevance by it's long-lasting consequences (radiation, mutation) and the super-long-lasting tech from the period. It's beginning to middle times for a re-upswing, since the events of the first 2 fallouts (the Tandys founding the NCR, the Master's defeat, and the shattering of the Enclave) are starting to gain momentum and affect the greater western US significantly.

Post-apocalypse properties usually hyper-focus on their core aspect: the world has ended. The thing with New Vegas and before New Vegas Fallout 2 is that they take place in a world that's already kinda decided it's time to move on from this whole "wow the world sucks and is in ruins." deal, yeah it is tough shit work with what's left and that is exactly what they are doing, so you get things like the Kings, The Strip, New Reno, Vault City etc.

I remember reading a comment on a video somewhere else years ago about what makes F:NV stand out to the other modern Fallout games is that it isn't a Post Apocalyptic Game, but a Post-Post Apocalyptic game. i mean fallout 1 and 2 have similar tones and general weirdness, they're just harder to get into because of poor controls and jank and lack the same depth and scope because the world is more limited and the plot is more linear

@@thembophilosopher8450 I agree with the jank part. I have tried multiple times to get into Fallout 1 and 2. But that type of gameplay just isnt for me.

I find it baffling how a spin-off to the fallout series that only took 18 months of development became more popular than all of the other fallout games combined

@@TheRealBatabii Some would say it's the real Fallout 3, since it was built on the bones of Fallout: Van Buren. I prefer to just pretend 3, 4, and 76 don't exist...
