Stranger In a Strange Land
Iron Maiden Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Was many years ago that I left home and came this way
I was a young man full of hope and dreams
But now it seems to me that all is lost and nothing gained
Sometimes things ain't what they seem

No brave new world
No brave new world
No brave new world
No brave new world

Night and day I scan horizon, sea and sky
My spirit wanders endlessly
Until the day will dawn and friends from home discover why
Hear me calling, rescue me

Set me free
Set me free
Lost in this place
And leave no trace

Stranger in a strange land
Land of ice and snow
Trapped into this prison, yeah
Lost and far from home

One hundred years have gone and many came
They came that way
To find the answer to the mystery
They found his body lying where it fell on that day
Preserved in time for all to see

No brave new world
No brave new world
Lost in this place
And leave no trace

What became of a man that started?
All are gone and their souls departed
Left me here in this place
So all alone

Stranger in a strange land
Land of ice and snow
Trapped inside this prison
Lost and far from home

What became of a man that started?
All are gone and their souls departed
Left me here in this place
So all alone

Stranger in a strange land
Land of ice and snow
Trapped inside this prison
Lost and far from home

Stranger in a strange land
Land of ice and snow
Trapped inside this prison
Lost and far from home

Stranger in a strange land
Land of ice and snow
Trapped inside this prison
Lost and far from home

Stranger in a strange land
Land of ice and snow

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Iron Maiden's "Stranger in a Strange Land" describe the feelings of a young man who left home full of hope and dreams only to find himself lost, trapped, and far from home in a place of ice and snow. He yearns to be rescued and set free, but it seems that all hope is lost. The chorus repeats the words "no brave new world," implying that his dreams of a better life have been shattered.

The verses describe his endless wandering, both physically and spiritually, in search of answers or a way out. The second verse introduces a mystery surrounding a man who had come before him and whose body was found preserved in time. This adds a layer of eeriness and loneliness to the already despairing tone of the song.

Overall, the lyrics reflect the isolation and confusion that can come from being in an unfamiliar and hostile environment. Despite the bleak outlook, the repeated refrain of "set me free" suggests that the singer still holds onto hope for a better future.

Adrians guitars solo....one of the best solo of heavy metal history

@mondochild

The best EVER…..well only at every moment we melody along with it, then when song over, “wow”. Then back to reality. The solo. Wow

@shambles7ful

Agreed. this solo has the late great Gary Moore written all over it.

@the_trooper_72

And yet, he left Maiden because he was scared of being found out as being the weak part of the band,..

@davel7791

@@the_trooper_72 Why? Because he couldn't play as fast as the rest of the guys?

@lawrencezrinzo9226

I always crying, when I lessening to him. So blessing, Adrian.

@rockoutmichigan

My favorite Maiden tune. Maiden was my oldest brother's favorite band, he died of cancer around 3 years ago. I crank songs like this when I miss him.
