Snow
Iron On Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't think the snow is deep enough for us to dance in
And I don't think i've ever seen snow that deep
Well i know, i know it takes two to tango
But i know, i know it takes three and you've gotta tango

But I don't think the rain is deep enough for me to drown in
And you and me have seen some rain
Yes you and me have seen some rain
Seen some rain, some rain

But i don't think the hail is coming down hard enough to kill me
Cause in the evening you seem so hard'
By morning your melted in my arm, in my arm
But's its ok told me
And one day i would see that confetti's more fun than paper
Confetti's more fun than paper
So get torn up about it
I got torn up about it

But i don't think the snow is deep enough for us to dance in
And i don't feel like dancing anyway

Please let me go gently on my way
Please let me go gently on my way

Overall Meaning

The song "Snow" by Iron On can be interpreted as a reflection on romantic relationships and the monotony and disappointments that can come with them. The lyrics convey a sense of disappointment and resignation, particularly in the chorus where the singer expresses doubt about the snow being deep enough for them to dance in, which can be interpreted as a metaphor for the lack of passion or excitement in the relationship. The line "But I know, I know it takes three and you've gotta tango" suggests that the singer may feel like they are not being reciprocated romantically, leading to feelings of being left out.

The verses that follow explore the idea of rain and hail, suggesting that the singer has experienced difficulty and even trauma in their relationship, but they ultimately seem to be looking for a change. They mention confetti being more fun than paper, perhaps indicating a desire for spontaneity and excitement in their life instead of the mundanity of everyday living. Ultimately, they plead to be let go gently, indicating a sense of resignation and acceptance that the relationship has not worked out.

Overall, "Snow" is a melancholic yet relatable song that explores the ups and downs of romantic relationships and the complexities of emotion that come with them.

Visuals For You

@MistaJ There's a lot to cover here so I'm going to break it up.

"I said hollywood is nowadays is a total sh*thole not only because of the quality of a movie, but also because there is no place for being different from other movies and being unique in their own way."

- There is one place I can think of. Streaming services. They have significantly helped filmmakers be unique in their own way, Netflix in particular. I highly doubt The Irishman (a 3 and a half hour mob movie), I'm Thinking of Ending Things (an extremely challenging psychological movie), Mank (a black and white movie with muffled audio about old Hollywood, that had been rejected by studios before), El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (a TV movie), and The Other Side of the Wind (an effort to finish an unfinished Orson Welles movie) could have been made/distributed without Netflix's help. Even if some of these streaming exclusive movies could have had decent runs theatrically, they only benefit from being on the services and can help filmmakers get their unique work promoted. I know you love Zack Snyder and it was only with the help of a streaming service that he could make the Snyder Cut.

"I reccomend you go watch some classic movies like jazz singer, casablanca, citizen kane, some like it hot. Come back to me when you find something unique like those movies these days. You will able to find movies like that, but not lots of them."

- Yeah, of course you won't be able to find many of them. You're talking about some of the most acclaimed movies of all time. It took a while for those movies to be released and considered classics too, and to prove that, you just have to see that the movies you mentioned have release dates that span entire decades apart. To me you're basically saying that it takes a while for classic movies to come out and that it's always been like that.

"Give this man a phone and tell him to shoot a movie. You can see something like that in above video. Can you name another director who can do something like that??"

- Yes. I can name more than one. Sean Baker sort of revolutionzed filming movies on phones with Tangerine, a full feature film shot on an iPhone 5s. Steven Soderbergh, one of the most popular directors ever, filmed Unsane on an iPhone 7 Plus, and then later, High Flying Bird on an iPhone 8. All three of these were full feature films and I think are much larger achievements than Zack Snyder's work here.

"Steven spilberg, james cameron, peter jackson, tarantino, scorsese, and even russo's and some other people. Other than that?? No one else."

- No one else? What? I'll name some more: Denis Villeneuve, Christopher Nolan, David Fincher, Bong Joon-ho, Guillermo del Toro, Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Alfonso Cuarón, Sam Mendes, Ridley Scott, Edgar Wright, Damien Chazelle, Wes Anderson, Paul Thomas Anderson, Spike Lee, Joel and Ethan Coen, David Lynch, Barry Jenkins, Greta Gerwig, Taika Waititi, Steve McQueen, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Noah Baumbach. These are just some but there are plenty of other acclaimed ones working today. I think there's still quality coming out today because of how many directors like this there are. All of these directors have clear styles. If this still doesn't seem like a lot of people to you, then I guess we just have different opinions on the ideal amount of working auteur directors.

"WB didnt let snyder, peter, david, cathy and lots of others to share their own unique style with people. Even russo's had rules when they were making MCU movies. Of course directors have rules, but that does not mean studio or anyone else can interfere with their work and change it."

- To be honest I don't know who David, Peter, or Cathy are that you're referring to here. From what I do recognize, I see you mentioned Snyder and the Russo brothers, both of which do massive blockbuster movies. There are still examples of studios giving filmmakers creative freedom outside of the most massive ones. I know Warner Bros. has negatively impacted the production of movies before by interfering but they really can give directors a lot of creative freedom. Some recent examples for me are Dunkirk, and by the looks of it, the upcoming Dune. When I think of studios that give creative freedom to their filmmakers, A24, Netflix and Annapurna are the first that come to mind for me.

"and when it comes to oscars, it was not about having less movies, there were no good movies other than those."

- ...which can also be attributed to there being less movies. Had more movies released that year, there would have been more good movies. You later say, "And of course lots of movies got delayed because of this pandemic, but that does not make my point wrong too," but I think it does. 2020 should never be used as a prime example to show the overall state of the film industry. It was the least traditional a year for movies could be so we shouldn't be using it to judge how many good movies usually come out a year. I think 2019 was a fantastic year for movies which I think shows even more that 2020 was just an odd year for film due to the circumstances.

"And the thing is, i was not trying to be rude at all."

- I figured you were when you kept mentioning how you wanted to the end the converstation and how I had no idea what I was talking about.

"And i recommend you to watch anthony mackie's explanation about why hollywood is bad these days."

- I've seen it before. I agree with what he's saying but I disagree about the general statement that Hollywood is bad. This is because I know there is so much more creative filmmaking outside of the most popular Hollywood properties there are, still in Hollywood. He's focusing on the absolute most popular properties today like the MCU and Stranger Things, but I know there are still plenty of great filmmakers out there working on smaller projects other than these.

The fact that Zack Snyder shot this on an iPhone is what inspired me to start making my own short films.

Say whatever you want, Snyder has a great visual style

@Veera Life I couldn't agree more. It's lazy writing and most of it makes no sense. If Quentin Tarantino had made the same short, bloody action flick on HIS iPhone, it would have had an actual story with a plot and at least a little character development and motivation. This is just violence porn with no rhyme or reason.

Blacklight Productions

@Veera Life What I learned about Snyder is he is pretty good at telling stories, but they're in a way very complex because of the style in which he tells his stories... The thing is, whenever he makes a cinematic project like this, you have to watch it more than once to actually understand it....

@JC McBoo but it has though aswell as other other aspect of his film making unlike any other director/film maker

JC McBoo

His visual style has never been in question.
