An Ending in Fire
Ironsword Lyrics

Plunged our weary world in gloom
Men and gods fought their best
In sacrifice their fate was cast
An ending in fire
Hyboria burns away
An ending in fire
The ghost kings depart for aye
On crystal ships they sail away
One last glimpse unto their time
Desolation left behind
(Repeat chorus)
Under a blood red sky warriors died
Funeral of the gods to hall up high
Thrones of ruins forevermore
Hyboria cleansed by flames of war
Sons of Aryas rise from the fall
An age reborn awaits us all
(Repeat chorus)
The lyrics of Ironsword's song "An Ending in Fire" depicts a world plunged into chaos and doom due to the Hyborian wars. Men and gods fought their best and in the end, their fate was sealed in sacrifice. The chorus emphasizes the end of this world - "An ending in fire, Hyboria burns away." The Hyboria, which was a fictional prehistoric world, is being cleansed by the flames of war. The warriors died under the blood-red sky, and the gods have departed on crystal ships, leaving behind desolation. But from the fall, the sons of Aryas rise, and a new age reborn awaits them all.
The song is an ode to Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian, whose stories were set in the mythical world of Hyboria. The lyrics reflect the bleak world of Hyboria where war and destruction were the order of the day. The song delves into the theme of destruction and rebirth, which is a recurring characteristic of Howard's work. The chorus, "An ending in fire," emphasizes the finality of the end, and the hope that arises from the fall is reflected in the line, "an age reborn awaits us all."
