They have ruled the earth
The stars are aligned
They shall soon come forth
So it is written, it shall be done
So it is written, it shall be done
Chaos unleashed
Binding spells broken
Cthulhu released
So it is written, it shall be done
So it is written, it shall be done
"That is not dead
Which can eternal lie
And with strange aeons
Even death may die"
The old ones were
The old ones are
And shall be again
In worlds afar
Iron Sword's song, 'Call of Cthulhu', draws inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, who was a master of cosmic horror fiction. In the song, the band refers to the rise of the Old Ones, ancient, god-like creatures who once ruled the earth and continue to threaten humanity's existence from other dimensions. The lyrics are ominous and foreboding, prophesying the Old Ones' return and the chaos that will ensue when they come. In the first verse, the band mentions the alignment of stars, which is often associated with Lovecraftian cosmic horror.
In the second verse, the band invokes Lovecraft's most famous creation, Cthulhu, an enormous, tentacled, and winged creature that lies dead but dreaming in the sunken city of R'lyeh. The binding spells that kept Cthulhu asleep are about to be broken, and the beast will be unleashed upon the world. The third verse borrows from Lovecraft's popular quote, "That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons, even death may die," emphasizing that the Old Ones' power is beyond human understanding and that they have existed for eternity.
Iron Sword's song is a fitting tribute to Lovecraft and his influential cosmic horror creation. The band's atmospheric music perfectly complements the foreboding lyrics, creating an ominous and exciting listening experience. Fans of Lovecraft and heavy metal will appreciate this song's creativity and passion.
