The band entered the studio in the autumn of 2010 with Jimmy Robertson to record their debut album, and released the single ‘South Pacific’ in Jan 2011. This second release and first for their new label Kitsuné / Cooperative Music, was mixed by LEXXX. Around this time they toured the UK and Europe as special guests of Klaxons, The Big Pink, Mystery Jets, Good Shoes and also co-headlined a tour with Egyptian Hip Hop.
In June 2011 they released their debut album “Native to”, preceded by the single “The Greeks”. "The Greeks" was accompanied by a video directed by French directors Megaforce, which quickly went viral (almost 3,500,000 plays to date on YouTube, and over 10,000,000 on Chinese YouTube)[citation needed]. The video was critically praised and has won several awards (The Antville Music Video Awards 2011', UK Music Video Awards 2011', D&AD Yellow Pencil Award 2012', Artrocker Award).
After the release of "Native to" and of single "Lies", the band spent rest of 2011 and part of 2012 touring Europe, USA (with Crystal Fighters), Japan, South America and the Far East.
In January 2013, Is Tropical released an EP, titled "Flags", featuring artists Get People, Visions, Drugzndreamz, Goodbye Leopold and Owen Pratt. The band released their second album ‘I’m Leaving’ on 20 May 2013 on Kitsune / Pias. The album was produced by Luke Smith.
The first single taken from the album is "Dancing Anymore", accompanied by a video by previous collaborators Megaforce, which gained notoriety and was removed from YouTube within hours of its release due to its graphic depiction of imagined sexual acts between a young man and naked CG characters. The second single, 'Lover's Cave' was released on August 26. 2013. The video was directed by cult New York photographer Richard Kern.

Too much of everything
Mirrors deflect light from their eyes
Fact turns to fiction when we blink
Things best forgotten don't you think
Sit comfortably whilst telling lies
Those brittle trees, those skeleton
Swallow the lies more than the truth
They're always ready on the tongue
For all the falsehoods to be sung
Sit comfortably whilst telling lies
They don't love you
The just need a little sex sometimes
True colors shine through
Don't beat yourself up for being too blind
They don't love you
They don't love you
Too old to sell, too young to tell
Too much of everything
Mirrors deflect light from their eyes
Fact turns to fiction when we blink
Things best forgotten don't you think
Sit comfortably whilst telling lies
(They don't love you)
Those brittle trees, those skeleton
Leaves were meant for dying
(They just need a little sex sometimes)
Swallow the lies more than the truth
(True colors shine through)
They're always ready on the tongue
(Don't beat yourself up for being too blind)
For all the falsehoods to be sung
Sit comfortably whilst telling lies
They don't love you
They just need a little sex sometimes
True colors shine through
Don't beat yourself up for being too blind
The song "Lies" by Is Tropical is a commentary on the concept of deception and how it is prevalent in society. In the first verse, the lyrics convey the idea that people become jaded as they age and accumulate experiences, but are still not mature enough to speak the truth. The image of mirrors deflecting light from their eyes suggests that people may be trying to hide behind a facade, rather than revealing their true selves. The line "Fact turns to fiction when we blink" speaks to the idea that our perception of the world can be distorted, and that we may not always know what is real.
The second verse shifts focus to the idea that lies can be more appealing than the truth. The use of the metaphor of brittle trees and skeleton leaves suggests that lies can be like a false sense of life that ultimately wilt away. The lines "Swallow the lies more than the truth / They're always ready on the tongue" suggest that people may choose to believe lies because they are more convenient or preferable to the truth. The final line "Sit comfortably whilst telling lies" further reinforces the theme that deception can become second nature for some people.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "They don't love you" four times, followed by the lines "They just need a little sex sometimes / True colors shine through / Don't beat yourself up for being too blind." This section suggests that dishonesty can be present in romantic relationships, and the mention of "true colors" implies that eventually, the truth will be revealed. The singer encourages the listener to not blame themselves for being deceived.
