Born on the US Navy Base, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Guillory played piano and guitar as a child and electric guitar as a high school student in Florida. He also studied music at Roosevelt University in Chicago 1965-69. While there, he recorded two albums with the Cryan' Shames as bass player. Leaving University he acquired a Martin D-35 and travelled Europe as an acoustic solo performer. Guillory came to earn the reputation of one of the best guitarists ever. Many guitarists today emulate the techniques Guillory evolved in the early 70's while living in Spain. He performed frequently as a guest artists for recordings and films with, among others, Al Stewart, Donovan, Mick Jagger, Buggles, Barbara Dickson and Nick Heyward. Guillory released "Isaac Guillory", a self-titled album in 1974. For a while Guillory went on to play jazz fusion and record with Pacific Eardrum, but from circa 1986 concentrated on his solo performances (which put him up-close with more intimate small audiences) and sharing his understanding of music; touring, creating his own online guitar school, and lecturing at the Guildhall School Of Music in London. He published five more CD's on his own independent label, Personal Records. As a performer he was dedicated to sharing his gift with both audience and fellow musicians, and as a teacher he never hesitated to share in a manner that others could understand.
Isaac Guillory passed away in 2000. His legacy is the music that only he could cause to come forth from a guitar with such apparent grace, pleasure and ease.

I fell in love with this version after seeing Isaac at Hitchin Folk Club in 1995. We had a chat and few beers, I came to really like the guy as well as being a fan. To this day New Years Eve has a tinge of sadness as it was on that day that Isaac lost out to cancer. Thanks to Carbonosidad and others for allowing us to keep his music alive.

We had Isaac many times at Hitchin, from 1975 until three months before he passed. As you know, his memory is immortalised in the Hitchin Folk Club backdrop, which I painted with the blessing of Isaac's wife, Victoria.

Amen to that. I had the very great honor of Isaac staying outside my house in Sheffield, twice, he stayed in his camper van! We jammed on both occasions, and in my naivity he patiently showed me what he called 'The cool chords" We went to Tesco, and bought a doughnut each, and Isaac got a steak, to cook in his van, then he came in and ate with us. What a gentleman, and incredible musician. Sadly missed

Agreed. I saw him Hitchin too

Back in 71 I had the great privilage of jamming with Isaac in my home after a tremendous performance he'd given at the local club. He allowed me to play his D35s and he played my Ancient D18. Despite his incredible skill even back then far greater than mine, he never made me or anyone else in the room feel embarrased or inadequate. He was a very special talent indeed and I've never understood why he was never a bigger star. It was impossible not to like, admire respect + wonder at his talent RIP

my wife and I had the pleasure of hearing Isaac play at the castle chare community centre in the mid eighties. Then again at a pub in Durham city. Two different concert experiences, both hosted by a great musician and a wonderful human being.Greatly missed, never forgotten.

An incredible player and a gentleman. I remember helping him to load his equipment onto his little Camper van after a Gig . Such a pleasant man. So missed >

I saw Isaac give a 'guitar clinic' at the Cambridge Folk Festival in the UK - he was a consummate musician with a deep love of the acoustic guitar, and boy could he play like an angel. Bob handling the lyrics with Isaac covering the six strings - oh boy...

Still crying, then laughing, 10 years on, wonderful memories, awesome music, angel man.
