Born Isabela Moner in 2001 in Cleveland, Ohio, Merced grew up in a bilingual household as the daughter of an American father and Peruvian-born mother. Around age six, her family's house was destroyed by fire. Consequently, to keep Merced occupied while they rebuilt their lives, her parents had her audition her for a local community production of The Wizard of Oz. She quickly developed a love of performing and eventually starred in over 25 productions, including Fiddler on the Roof and The Sound of Music.
It was during this period that a director encouraged her parents to take her to New York to try her hand at musical theater on Broadway. They did, and at age ten she starred alongside Ricky Martin in a production of Evita. That led to work in Hollywood, including nabbing the lead role of CJ Martin on the Nickelodeon series 100 Things to Do Before High School, which ran from 2014 to 2016. More roles followed, including voicing the character of Kate on the animated series Dora and Friends: Into the City! and starring in several Nickelodeon films, including Splitting Adam and Legends of the Hidden Temple. She also released a 2015 covers album, Stopping Time, which included the original song "Dream About Me." Returning to acting, she appeared in 2017's Transformers: The Last Knight, and voiced the character of Heather in The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature. The following year, she appeared in the films Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Instant Family. However, it was her starring role in 2019's live-action adaptation of the Dora the Explorer animated series, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, that garnered Merced world-wide fame.
Up until this point, Merced had worked under her birth name, Isabela Moner. However, in 2019 she adopted the stage name Isabela Merced, drawing on the name of her late grandmother, Yolanda Merced Salazar Pittman. In October 2019 she released her debut single as Isabela Merced, "Papi," which she co-wrote with Justin Tranter.

I feel the rush now, viene y sube
You got my interest
No lo dejes pa después
I wanna know
Baby you know I can't resist ya
I can feel the tension
Stay on read 'til you double text
'Cause the game just feels so good
Mess around 'til I take you down
Like I knew you knew I would
Want it bad
Is it bad?
Only want what I can't have
I can't have
Is it the look on your face?
Or is it the light in this place?
Am I in love with you?
Or am I in love with the drama that brings me back
Only want what I can't have
I can't have
Is it the look on your face
Or is it the light in this place
Am I in love with you
Or am I in love with the chase?
Pushing
Pushing
Wanna pull it
Oh baby, no sé
No sé
What I'm doing
I want you to leave me
I want you to need me
This makes no sense
No tiene sentido
Baby, you know I can't resist ya
I can feel the tension
Runnin' through your whisper
Stay on read 'til you double text
'Cause the game just feels so good
Mess around 'til I take you down
Like I knew you knew I would
Want it bad
Is it bad?
Only want what I can't have
I can't have
Is it the look on your face?
Or is it the light in this place?
Am I in love with you
Or am I in love with the drama that brings me back
Only want what I can't have
I can't have
Is it the look on your face
Or is it the light in this place
Am I in love with you
Or am I in love with the chase?
Me encanta cómo tú lo juegas
Regresas y luego me dejas
Me subes y me bajas
Esta vez tú no te escapas
No no
Me muero de ganas
Yo voy por donde tú vayas
Yea yea
Want it bad
Is it bad?
Only want what I can't have
I can't have
Is it the look on your face?
Or is it the light in this place?
Am I in love with you
Or am I in love with the drama that brings me back
Only want what I can't have
I can't have
Is it the look on your face
Or is it the light in this place
Am I in love with you
Or am I in love with the chase?
Or am I in love with the chase?
The song "The Chase" by Isabela Merced is about the thrill of pursuing someone who you know you shouldn't be chasing, but you can't help it. The lyrics talk about feeling the rush and tension of the chase, not being able to resist the person, and only wanting what you can't have. The singer questions whether they are in love with the person themselves or the drama that comes with the chase.
The first verse starts with a greeting, followed by an invitation to come up and join the chase. The singer admits that they are interested and can't resist the person. They feel the tension and describe the feeling of excitement and joy derived from the game of the chase. They ask if it's wrong to only want what they can't have, and whether they are in love with the person or just the drama.
In the chorus, the singer acknowledges their confusion about their feelings, whether it's the look on the person's face, or the environment that's making them chase after the person. They question whether they are in love with the person or in love with the chase itself.
The second verse talks about the singer's desire to push the other person away, but at the same time, they want the other person to need them. They recognize that everything is senseless, but they can't stop the chase. The bridge and final chorus express the singer's love for the chase and how they can't help but follow the person they're chasing.
In summary, "The Chase" is a song about the excitement and confusion that comes with the thrill of pursuing someone that you know you shouldn't be chasing. The lyrics are both a confession of infatuation with someone and an acknowledgement that the performer is addicted to the process of chasing.
