In 1990, some friends recorded her at the Petite-Vallée song festival without her consent, but she completed a performance there and was regarded as a huge success. The following year she won at the Granby song festival for her rendition of Jacques Brel's "Amsterdam". That same year she was invited to take part in the festival Les FrancoFolies de Montréal.
In 1993 she represented Radio Canada at the "Truffe de Périgueux" festival held in Périgord, France. She carried off the prize for Best Singer in the "chanson francophone" (French song) category. Following her success in France, she was noticed by songwriter Luc Plamondon who was looking for emerging talents to perform in a new production of his rock opera Starmania. There, Boulay portrayed the role of Marie-Jeanne.
In 1996, Isabelle Boulay provided the singing voice for Alys Robi in the television series of the same name. She released her debut album, Fallait pas, that year.
Two years later, came "États d’amour" an album that included some of her most popular songs. "Je t’oublierai, je t’oublierai", "La lune" or "Le saule".
The following years were filled with success and recognition all over the world. In that time her albums "Scènes d’amour", which included thirteen live duets and "Mieux qu'ici-bas" were released. This last one became an instant success.
"Au moment d'être à vous" was again recorded live in Montreal in 2002. Acompanied by the Symphonic Orchestra of Montreal, she performed her favourite songs from many composers.
"Tout un Jour" was released in 2004 and it included 14 new songs.
"Du Temps pour Toi" was recorded live at L'Olympia in Paris and released in 2005 and a DVD of the concert was also released.
In 2007, she went back to her childhood memories and songs and recorded a Country music album called "De Retour à la source"
In the spring of 2008 she released an album produced in France, "Nos Lendemains" that you can hear in her official site: www.isabelleboulay.ca

Mon nom est Jean-Guy Thibault-Leroux
I come from east of Gatineau
My name is Jean-Guy, ma jolie
J'ai une maison ?? Lafontaine
Where we can live, if you marry me
Une belle maison ?? Lafontaine
Oh Louise, ma jolie Louise
Tous les matins au soleil
I will work 'til work is done
Tous les matins au soleil
I did work 'til work was done
And one day, the foreman said
?? Jean-Guy, we must let you go ??
Et pis mon nom, y est pas bon
At the mill anymore...
Oh Louise, I'm losing my head,
I'm losing my head
My kids are small, 4 and 3
Et la bouteille, she's mon ami
I drink the rum 'tilI I can't see
It hides the shame Louise does not see
Carousel turns in my head,
And I can't hide, oh no, no, no, no
And the rage turned in my head
And Louise, I struck her down,
Down on the ground
I'm losing my mind, I'm losing my mind
En Septembre '63
Kids are gone, and so is Louise.
Ontario, they did go
Near la ville de Toronto
Now my tears, they roll down,
Tous les jours
And I remember the days,
And the promises that we made
Oh Louise, ma jolie Louise, ma jolie Louise.
The song "Jolie Louise" by Isabelle Boulay tells a sad story of a man named Jean-Guy Thibault-Leroux who fell in love with a woman named Louise. Jean-Guy, also known as "ma jolie," is a hardworking man from the east of Gatineau, and he dreams of marrying Louise and building a beautiful home with her. However, after being fired from his job at the mill, Jean-Guy turns to alcohol and his life spirals out of control. He becomes violent and hits Louise, losing her and their two children. The song is a heartbreaking tale of love, loss, and regret.
The lyrics of the song are vivid and descriptive, and they paint a picture of Jean-Guy's life, from his work at the mill to his struggles with alcoholism, to his memories of Louise and their lost love. The chorus, "Oh Louise, ma jolie Louise," is a poignant reminder of the love that Jean-Guy once had and the pain of losing it.
