True Blue
Isabelle Boulay Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'll be true to you
I will be true blue, my darlin'
Ever be true blue
'Cause love, when it is true,
Is neither selfish, vain or proud,
Love, when it is true,
And it passeth undertanding
And endureth for all time
The greatest of god's treasures
True love, so rare to find
It knows no boundairies
It is gentle and it is sweet
Giving and forgiving
Trusting and complete
Blue skies and whtite clouds
And yellow sunlight
And you, my darling, you are the true love of my life
I'll be true to you, my darlin'
I'll be true to you
I will be true blue, my darlin'
Ever be true blue
And I promise I will always
And forever love you
And I vow I will never
Be less than true blue
True blue, true blue
I vow I will never
Be less than true blue
True blue, true blue
I vow I will never
Be less than true blue
True blue
The song "True Blue" by Isabelle Boulay is a heartfelt declaration of love that promises loyalty and commitment until the end of time. The chorus repeatedly affirms the singer's intention to be "true to" and "true blue" to her beloved, underlining the depth and sincerity of her feelings. The lyrics explain that true love is not selfish, vain, or proud, but rather a force that transcends understanding and endures "for all time." The song suggests that true love is rare and precious, yet boundless and gentle, forgiving and trusting, and ultimately the greatest treasure of all.
As the singer describes the beauty of the natural world in the verses ("blue skies and white clouds/ and yellow sunlight"), she makes it clear that her love for her partner is equally powerful and inspiring. She vows to love her partner forever and to never be anything less than "true blue." These lyrics paint a picture of a deep and unshakable love, one that both acknowledges the challenges of life and celebrates the joy of being truly seen and cherished.
