Rope // rosegold
Isaiah Rashad Lyrics

And that this world has
Uhm-hm, yeah

When I'm sober I might testify
That this world has folded our praise
For the few that always touch the sky
I don't want space ships
I miss my roses
And I won't call you
Cause I'm too fake
Like nowadays
I barely know myself
But thank God I found this rope, I love you
Yeah baby, I love you
I love you
I barely know myself
But thank God I found this rope, I love you
Yeah baby, I love you
I love you

Then my dad did call me yesterday
And he cried and cried into my phone
Bout the love that can't that he forgot
Since he left his family all alone
I don't know why I feel all in gray
And I know my heart ain't built to be
But I came back and forth
To chase my tracks and roll them
I ain't supposed to know here
Some go, her face so shy
Her friends so cold
Some go a place so high
And friends so cold
I love you, I love you, I love you

This the room, this the room
(Fancy car that keeps me goin')
Glad to have you back my nig
We meant to do this
(Eyes that shine)

Alright scramble for the ammo
Can we build, can we chill? Can I live with my kids?
Deuce, poof, proof
Lord I can't feel the joy
I can't fill the void
Let her fill the void
Too, too young to ignore
But really if we don't make it out the city
If we don't make it to the finish line, if I don't make it to your tities
I got the music for the vibers
I got the music for the vibers
And we to talk about it
It's like you debatin' with a bible
I'm really preachin' to the choir
I brought the music for the vibers though
And in the chalice that keeps me low as your morals
Ay smokin' on the cabbage
I see you fuckin' with the gravity
I been waitin' for a challenge
Besides waitin' for the balance
And the apricot
And to rap with Dot
And I laugh a lot
I got some old hoes, haa
And some new friends and some rosegold
And some, and some rose gold

(You are the fancy car that keeps me goin')
I know you talkin' to me nigga
(I know ya)
I know ya nigga
(You are the fancy car that keeps me goin')
Give a fuck
(I know ya)
Niggas be floatin' around
(I got my eyes on ya)
(I got my eyes and they shine like 1999)
(I got my eyes on ya)
(I got my eyes and they shine like 1999)

Only so fuckin' long you can ignore me my nigga though
Fuckin' you Rashad, fuckin' hear me dog, motherfucker

Overall Meaning

In the first part of the song, Isaiah Rashad contemplates on the state of the world and how it has affected him personally. He mentions that the world has "folded our praise", which suggests that the world has somehow silenced our appreciation and gratitude towards life. He then goes on to admit that when he is sober, he might testify to this notion. He acknowledges that there are exceptional people that "always touch the sky", but he does not aspire to be them. Instead, he longs for the simple pleasures of life, represented by his roses, which he misses. He further admits that he is too fake to call someone for help. He is struggling to understand himself and his purpose. However, he is grateful that he has found something (probably music) that has given him hope and love.

In the second part of the song, Isaiah Rashad reflects on a conversation with his dad that left him feeling low. It appears that his dad called him to apologize for leaving his family and the love that was lost as a result. Isaiah admits that he feels gray and depressed, but he is determined to keep moving forward to find himself. He references the phrase "chase my tracks and roll them", which implies that he has to confront his past and try to reconcile with it. He then shifts his focus to the people around him who have different paths in life and different kinds of friends. Nonetheless, he reiterates the message of the song by saying he loves them all, including himself.

Overall, the song suggests that life is complicated, but we should keep searching for love, hope, and purpose amidst the challenges. Isaiah Rashad shares his struggles with self-doubt, anxiety, and depression but remains optimistic that he will find his way. He uses the metaphor of a rope to symbolize something that has given him strength, probably music or a close relationship.
