Dandelion Wine
Isakov Gregory Alan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Summer days were just a magazine, a magazine
A magazine

Cutting grass for gasoline, for gasoline
So I can see ya soon

Fall swooned
Left me drunk in a field
Dandelion wine for a year

And I packed up the dust
Of all that I owned
Handkerchief hung from a pole

I rolled out the day that the apples fell

Overall Meaning

In Isakov Gregory Alan's song "Dandelion Wine," the lyrics describe the singer's reflection on a past summer of their youth. The singer nostalgically notes that summer days felt like they were "just a magazine," meaning they were almost too perfect and idyllic to feel real. The mundane task of cutting grass was a means to an end, as the singer was doing so to be able to see someone soon. The singer describes feeling intoxicated or "drunk in a field" by the time fall arrived, and reflects on a year spent making dandelion wine.

Literally the exact same situation for me. It was really by chance that I found this, but I'm so glad I did.

My friend of 18 years died today, he always sent me this artist. I hope we meet again JT, we were meant to be, just not in this lifetime.

These songs make me think of my home state of Colorado. The plains of Colorado were beautiful. The open land. Soft hills rolling down the horizon. The smell of sage. Deer and antelope leaping and eating their cares away. The small town lifestyle that no money could turn. Just something about it.
