In 2006 Isobel released a collaborative LP (Ballad of the Broken Seas) with former Screaming Trees and Queens of the Stone Age singer Mark Lanegan, a mixture of folk and more rock-orientated music. October 2006 also saw the release of her latest album, Milkwhite Sheets, a more acoustic folk album, consisting of a mixture of traditional songs alonside Isobel's own compositions.
Isobel's band The Gentle Waves released its first album on Jeepster Records, titled The Green Fields of Foreverland, in 1999. The second Gentle Waves record, Swansong For You came out one year later. In 2002, she collaborated with Scottish jazz musician Bill Wells on a collection of Billie Holliday songs, released by Creeping Bent.
In 2003 Campbell released Amorino, the first solo album under her own name, to very good reviews. Bill Wells was featured here again, along with other jazz musicians.
Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan form a unique combination of gruff vocals and dulcet voices. They have released three albums so far: Ballad of the Broken Seas, which received a nomination in the 2006 Mercury Awards, Sunday at Devil Dirt, which was released in May 2008. The album received US release in Fall 2008. And finally their third album Hawk was released in August 2010.
Thursday's Child

Twenty-five years, better choose reality
Took a trip searching in your house of fun
Couldn't go there with almost anyone
Thursday's child
Far to go
Thursday's child
Thursday's child
No regrets
Thursday's child
Won't forget
Bought a ticket, waltzed on the Ferris wheel
Take this longing and make it something real
Until then she will be a slave to trust
Before it's ashes to ashes, dust to dust
Thursday's child
Far to go
Thursday's child
Far to go
Thursday's child
No regrets
Thursday's child
Won't forget
Thursday's child
Far to go
Thursday's child
Far to go
Thursday's child
No regrets
Thursday's child
Won't forget
Thursday's child
Far to go
Thursday's child
Far to go
Thursday's child
No regrets
Thursday's child
Won't forget
The lyrics to Isobel Campbell's song Thursday's Child appear to be about a person who has been living in a fantasy world for 25 years and now realizes the importance of choosing reality. The person takes a trip to their house of fun but couldn't go with just anyone because it's a personal journey. The chorus repeats the line "Thursday's child, far to go" which could be a reference to an old nursery rhyme that says Thursday's child has far to go. This may suggest that the person still has a long way to go on their journey of self-discovery and navigating reality. However, there are no regrets and the person won't forget the experience they had.
The lyrics then switch to a different perspective as the person decides to take action and buy a ticket to ride the Ferris wheel, a symbol of the ups and downs of life. The person wants to take their longing and make it something real. This is a powerful statement because it shows that the person has a desire for something that they want to turn into a tangible reality. However, the person recognizes that she will be a slave to trust until then. This may imply that they have trust issues that they need to work through before they can fully embrace reality.
Overall, the song seems to convey a message of self-discovery and taking action to turn dreams into reality. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the journey aspect of life, suggesting that it's a long process but one that shouldn't be regretted or forgotten.
